AFC 716 AFC 716 (Alternative Fitness Center - 716) is a fitness based Martial Arts School. We value a strong community where everyone can be themselves while training.

We strive to be a school where everyone is taught where they are, not where we want to be.

One of our core values at AFC716 is Honesty & Integrity.
A lot of our Kung Fu students are what we would call “Self-Auditors”.
They recognize their own flaws.
They recognize when they don't understand something.
They struggle with something, sometimes because they just can't figure out the answer on their own.
And then they do something important.
They ask for help.
We work with them. We explain things, sometimes from a different perspective, until something clicks.
They take what they've learned, figure out how to incorporate it into what they're doing, and get better.
Then they move on to the next challenge.
We love working with students like this because they take an incredibly active role in their own learning.
They don't expect someone else to do the work for them. They take responsibility for their own progress.
That's Honesty. That's Integrity. That's Growth.
And it's an absolute pleasure to teach students like this.
The question isn't whether you have flaws. We all do. The question is whether you're willing to recognize them and do something about them.
This is how we live with a lifelong pursuit of excellence.

Our ability to think is one of our greatest strengths.
It can also be one of the things that holds us back the most.
We overthink.
We worry about what might happen.
We think about everything that could go wrong.
And sometimes, we think so much that we stop ourselves in our own tracks.
Thinking is a tool.
Like any other tool, we have to learn how to use it.
But don’t let it keep you from taking the next step.
Think. Make a choice. Then move.

Some of our students are still taking walks in the woods in their 80s.
We want to be like those guys.
So we’re starting now.
It’s about what we want to still be able to do years from now…
A body in motion stays in motion.

Daily life can be frustrating sometimes.

And learning how to handle that frustration can be tough.

In Tai Chi class, we put in the work, day after day. Class after class. We learn to settle ourselves down.

That’s where we start to understand what the flow of Tai Chi can offer us.

We practice moving while staying calm.

We practice slowing down instead of reacting.

And little by little, that can carry over into the choices we make outside of class.

We choose to exercise because we know we'll feel better afterward.

We choose healthier food because we know we'll feel better afterward.

We learn to make choices based on where we want to go, instead of just how we feel in the moment.

Slow down. Settle down. Make a choice. Keep moving.

One of our Core Values at AFC716 is Honesty & Integrity.

Some of our students are what we like to call Self-Auditors.

These students are brutally honest with themselves.

In Tai Chi, a Self-Auditor knows when they struggle with their balance during a certain movement. They know when a sequence just doesn’t feel right. They know when there’s something they could be doing better.

And they don’t wait for someone else to point it out.

They ask.

“Can you watch me do this?”

“Something doesn’t feel right here.”

“Can we go over this part again?”

That takes Honesty & Integrity.

Not because you’re criticizing yourself, but because you’re willing to recognize where you can improve.

We ask these questions because we know there’s an issue. And once we recognize it, we can do something about it.

You know you can do better.

You know you’ll get it.

So you ask.

Together, we grow.

At 45, I teach Kung Fu, Tai Chi & More…

When I was younger, I was always a nervous person, with no self-confidence at all.

I didn’t look people in the eye. I didn’t have much self-respect. And I didn’t even know enough to ask myself:

“How could anyone respect me if I didn’t respect myself?”

Martial arts helped me in two very different ways.

Kung Fu helped me build strength and skill.

I found something I was good at. Then I found out I was really good at teaching it.

That gave me something I didn’t have before: self-respect.

Tai Chi helped me become comfortable with myself.

Comfortable enough to stand in front of 10 or 15 people, speak clearly, stay focused, and teach what I know.

None of that happened overnight.

I struggled. I worked hard. I got better.

Then I started teaching… and I struggled all over again.

So I worked harder.

And I got better again.

All because I had the courage to start…

and the courage to never stop.
