UAW Region 9 Endorses Aaron Gies for Congress
UAW leaders cite Gies’ commitment to listening to working people, protecting union jobs, and strengthening American manufacturing

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Aaron Gies, Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, today announced the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9, adding one of the nation’s most prominent labor organizations to his growing coalition of support from working people across NY-23.

Wence Valentin III, UAW Region 9 Political Director, said Gies has demonstrated the kind of leadership working families deserve from their representative in Congress.

Valentin said, “Aaron Gies earned the endorsement of the UAW Region 9 CAP Council because he takes the time to listen to working people and understands the issues that affect their families. Aaron listens, he shows up, and he understands the importance of protecting good union jobs and strengthening American manufacturing. We are proud to endorse Aaron Gies for Congress and believe he is the clear choice for working families in New York’s 23rd Congressional District.”

Gies said the endorsement reflects the kind of campaign he has worked to build across NY-23: one centered on listening to the people who live and work in the district.

“Working people do not need another politician who shows up when there is a camera around and disappears when the election is over. They need someone who will sit down with them, listen to them, and then fight alongside them,” said Gies. “That is what I have tried to do throughout this campaign, and it is an honor to have the UAW Region 9 CAP Council recognize that commitment. I am honored to have their support, and I look forward to earning the trust of working families across this district every single day.”
The endorsement comes as Gies continues his 100 Town Halls in under 100 Days tour across NY-23, meeting directly with residents in communities throughout the district.

Gies is focusing his campaign on making life a good life affordable for every American, prioritizing good-paying jobs right here at home, housing you can actually afford, quality healthcare for every family, and an economy where working people can finally get ahead and build a secure future.

The UAW Region 9 CAP is the legislative and political arm of the union’s regional organization, with councils representing members across multiple states and Puerto Rico. Region 9A alone represents 34 locals and counting across eastern New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Puerto Rico, with members working across manufacturing, government, higher education, child care, cultural institutions, legal services, design, gaming, and other industries.

“Whether you work in a factory, a hospital, a classroom, a government office, or a small business, the basic question is the same: can you afford to build a good life?” Gies said. “That is what this campaign is about, and that is what I will fight for in Congress.”

Our hearts are with the family, friends, students and colleagues of Heather Raggi, a beloved Starpoint Central School District teacher. Heather, just 41, was also a wife and incredible mom. She passed away on July 10th.

Heather dedicated 17 years to shaping young minds, but those who knew her say her greatest joy was being a mother to her two children, Kaden and Kylah. She poured her heart into her family, classroom and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her positivity and unwavering love left an imprint that will never be forgotten.

At Hope Rises, we believe in surrounding families with hope during life's darkest moments.

Please keep Heather's husband, son and daughter, as well as all who loved Heather in your thoughts and prayers. If you feel called to help, donations are being accepted to Niagara Hospice in her honor.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is simply reminding a family they are not walking this road alone.
