It’s that time of year when days are feeling shorter, nights are feeling cozier, and schoolbooks are getting dusted of with purpose and planning!
Homeschool is where our hearts are, but we love to gather to share and learn the gift of music! We are a Christian Homeschool group and will be doing Christian choral pieces as well as other educational pieces that line up with our Christian values.
Big Change! We are flip flopping classes this year. So our big kids will go first Friday afternoons, then middles, then littles depending on class size, we may divide into another class. I am not quite sure on times, because I am uncertain how many students we will be serving right now. I know several of the older kids are transitioning to public/private school instruction this year, but Friday afternoon is when the classes will be. We will start around 12:30 or 1pm and be done by 3:30.
The “Bigs” class will be high school music with a healthy challenge. Some younger children love challenging literature, but might need a bit of support at home or with extra practice. I suggest the kids be JH or High School ages or maturity levels. Some advanced 5th and 6th graders will do fine! (Suggested 12 and older but you know your kids best!). These kids can participate in our Christmas skit and caroling activity at the end of the semester.
The “Middles” class will be doing two part treble music. We will also have a general music lesson as this is a requirement for elementary students and we want to provide that for the families. Ages are less important in this class, but reading is required. They will be learning to sight read this year as well. Your children may need you to sit with them and help them follow the music and that is absolutely fine to do! I do highlight the music to help them follow along. (Suggested ages 8-12). Some 2nd graders are reading well enough to join this class.
The “Littles” class is mostly engaging music instruction and exploration. Songs will be taught by rote with actions. They will learn counting notes and beginning rhythm and beginning note reading. It’s very fun and we keep it upbeat! (Suggested ages 4-8).
Promised Land Singers also have a worship team (think Varsity) that consists of teenagers that want to learn how to harmonize, play instruments, lead, and worship in a team setting. These are kids that want to eventually serve their church fellowships when they are able to. If you desire that your child be in this group they may need some private instrumental or vocal lessons before they are ready. We chord and do not play note by note written music, so it doesn’t take much to blossom in this group. The child just needs to want to work at it pretty seriously. They have multiple opportunities throughout the year to lead youth worship. We will practice when it is convenient for those involved.
We will have a Christmas concert to close out the semester. We then start a brand new semester in January with a spring recital to close the spring semester.
We offer these classes as a gift to families that have chosen to homeschool their children. Since I don’t make money, it’s my tithe to the Lord, and I love it. I promise that they are not cheap classes, but filled with fun and engaging ways to learn music.
We are planning to meet again at Harvest Fellowship in Shambaugh, Iowa. This may change depending on the needs of our group. We do have a free will offering at every class so you can gift the church for the use of the amazing facility.

We hope to start on Fridays in September following Labor Day!
