MUSIC AND PIANO CLASSES:
The music classes are geared toward creating excitement, creativity and passion for music. Alexis is an intuitive teacher and will draw out whatever creative motivations your child may have. That might be writing, learning chords for playing in family jam circles or diving straight into Mozart. If a child is moved to stud
y virtuoso stylings, Alexis will provide that. It is MUCH more important that the student love music than it is to stress them out over being the best. Your child WILL learn at an accelerated speed simply because they are having fun. In fact, piano students will be reading music on the scale within the first two classes. Younger students will learn to read the notes and count the beats as well, rather than simply attending a music appreciation class designed to entertain them. Alexis is a FANTASTIC music teacher and your child will be thrilled with how quickly and easily they learn their way around the key board. CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE:
Whether teaching piano or philosophy, Alexis uses every opportunity to teach her students to let go of unhelpful behaviors and to choose actions that ensure harmony. For example, if a child has had a hard day and ends up lashing out in class, Alexis will recognize this as a poorly executed attempt to get attention. She'll tell the child it seems they want attention, but the behavior they are choosing is only ensuring they receive negativity and rejection, ask the child to step into the hallway, take 3 breaths, and come back when they are ready to try again a different way. (This usually takes only a few seconds.) Students will then re-enter the classroom and simply say, "I've had a hard day (or, I'm not feeling good, etc...) and could really use some attention." Then Alexis will offer up a seat beside her for the student to come and feel loved and appreciated or help them solve their problem another way WITHOUT having to create chaos to do so (which they quickly see never worked out well for them anyway.) After a consistent application of this type of behavior education, children do learn to completely drop their destructive behaviors and simply ask for what they want. The goal is to teach them that they deserve the love and attention or to get what they truly want just by being themselves and being honest about what they need. This is a powerful education that will carry them through life. CLASS PRICING:
Some classes are monthly and some are by semester. Semester-long classes can be paid off in 3 monthly payments instead of all at once. For students of low-income families, a barter/trade arrangement can be considered. Because the studio is located on a one-lane private road with minimal parking, a limited amount of $10 car-pooling discounts are offered per class.
