Just a friendly reminder that the term “time blindness” is an ableist term that the Blind community have asked us to stop using.

As an alternative:

✅ time agnosia or

✅ difference in time perception

When we discuss our own neurodivergence & disabilities, we cannot and should not perpetuate harm to other disabilities & neurodivergence.

Tell me, are you tired of being misunderstood? Tired of explaining yourself yet the same perspective of your behaviour keeps happening?

Yeah. Same.

And it can make us too scared to ask questions and ask for what we need because WE KNOW how that goes down. Spoiler alert: not well.

Unless our neurological reality is accommodated in schools, jobs, interpersonal relationships, and various systems then we aren’t operating in an inclusive way. Furthermore, if our autistic needs are being reframed negatively then that’s not just exclusionary, it’s discriminatory.

NT Perspective:
Initial data given is enough.
Minimal requests for more details is acceptable, beyond that is rude or challenging.
A response or decision to be somewhat immediate.
Requesting time to process is being difficult or combative.
Voicing needs to enable an informed decision is controlling.
Maintaining boundaries for your needs is viewed negatively.

Our Reality:
Having all the information and “irrelevant” details helps us understand.
Asking questions is to obtain the data we need.
We take time to process & fully understand the information.
Stating what we need is to try and get our needs met.
Wanting our needs met comes from understanding how our brains work and don’t work.
Being ‘rigid’ with our needs is to ensure an informed decision.”]
