PIerce County High School rising senior Sam Chesser was recognized Monday at the June BOE meeting for his recent state championship AV/Tech project. Sam won 1st place at the 2026 Georgia Student Technology Competition in the category of Video Production (11th/12th grades).
His project involved editing the video overlay used at the PCHS Sports Complex during basketball games for the 2025-26 season.
Sam is the son of Bo and Cristina Chesser. Congratulations, Sam!

Rose Aldridge served for several years as public relations coordinator for the Pierce County School District. We are grateful for her life, her service, and her friendship.
AWARD WINNING JOURNALIST, FORMER TIMES NEWS EDITOR ROSE ALDRIDGE PASSES AWAY AT 76
Rose Sutton Aldridge, an award winning journalist and former long-time News Editor of The Blackshear Times, passed away Saturday morning, June 6. She was 76.
Aldridge served as News Editor at The Times for 18 years from 1982-2000. She later served as public relations coordinator with Pierce County Schools retiring in 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, from the Grace Episcopal Church in Waycross.
A tribute to Aldridge will be included in the Wednesday, June 10 edition of The Times.

Starting the week of May 25, the Pierce County School District—including all schools and the Board of Education office—will transition to our summer operating hours.
We will be operating on a compressed 4-day work week to maximize efficiency over the summer months. Please note our updated schedule below so we can best serve you!
🕒 Summer District Hours
Week of May 25 through the week of July 20
(Our last Friday closed will be Friday, July 24)
Monday – Wednesday: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Thursday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Friday: CLOSED
🗓️ Holiday & Summer Closures
All Pierce County schools and the Board of Education will be completely closed on the following dates:
Thursday, June 18 (Juneteenth Observance)
Monday, June 29 – Friday, July 3 (System-wide Summer Break)
Normal hours of operation will resume after July 24 as we gear up for an amazing new school year! Have a safe, happy, and relaxing summer, Bears! 🐻✨
