Virginia Tech recently lost one of its preeminent scholars and educators, with the passing of James Michael “Mike” Duncan, University Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Virginia Tech Civil & Environmental Engineering.

For more than four decades, Mike was a defining figure in Virginia Tech’s world-class geotechnical engineering program. A minor for all Hokies! 💻🦃 Starting this fall, students in every major across Virginia Tech will have the opportunity to build AI skills and literacy they can apply to any field of study and to their careers as they enter a workforce where AI will be part of nearly every profession.

Applications to join the minor program will open in August for all undergraduates. Incoming students can add some of the minor’s classes to their schedules starting this month.

The interdisciplinary minor will give students in every major the opportunity to build artificial intelligence skills, explore ethical impacts, and use that information in fields ranging from business and public policy to music and filmmaking.
