It’s Spotlight Sunday! Up next is our Chapter’s Faculty Advisor, Dr. Julianne Chung! Dr. Chung’s research is on the development of computational methods for large-scale inverse problems. Inverse problems are of core importance in many scientific fields such as astronomy, biology, and medicine, but there are enormous computational challenges when solving them; Dr. Chung tackles these challenges using sophisticated tools from mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Her favorite thing about Virginia Tech is the community, including the students she works with, her colleagues, and the greater Blacksburg community. Outside of school, she has two daughters who keep her busy with activities. They enjoy going on walks and spending time with friends together. We’re so glad to have Dr. Chung as our Faculty Advisor! Thank you for all you do!

It’s Spotlight Sunday! Today’s spotlight is on our chapter’s treasurer, Isabel Byrne. Isabel is an undergraduate student in her senior year with a major in traditional mathematics. Her interests include graph theory and combinatorics. Outside of math, she also completed the Integrated Science Curriculum in her freshman and sophomore years at Virginia Tech. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, being outdoors, hiking, traveling, baking, doing crafts, and watching tv shows and movies. We’re so excited to have her on our team :)
