Another excellent MasterTech in the books! This time technicians gots to learn about occasional invaders (including the spotted lanternfly) and termites! Norfolk site and weather was very agreeable, and we even had an eastern kingsnake join in on the fun. Kudos to the Virginia Pest Management Association.

Our technician and Graduate Student Morgan Wilson earned a Presentation Award for Women Scientists for her presentation on structural fumigation to control bed bugs. Congratulations Morgan!

In a two-hour session on cockroaches, Mark “Shep,” Rose Pest Solutions, discussed four functions of monitoring cockroaches: Population size and scope, tracking activity, indicating elimination and early detection.
Dr. Ameya Gondhalekar said that although resistance is a concern manufacturers, researchers and PMPs are doing a great job addressing this challenge. Virginia Tech’s Morgan Wilson and the rest of the panel all agreed that underbaiting is the biggest mistake they see PMPs making when it comes to cockroach control.
