Virginia Tech BioBuild Program Virginia Tech's interdisciplinary graduate program in the field of bio-inspired buildings.

Bio-inspiration “is the act of learning from nature, borrowing designs and strategies that have worked in place for billions of years”. Through integration of theories of biological systems and buildings systems, bio-inspired building will transform the built environment by incorporating the capacity of biological systems for self-sufficiency and co-existence within our building design and communi

ty development paradigm, which is resource intensive and ecologically insensitive. VT BioBuild is a doctoral program that answers the pressing societal need for professionals with the interdisciplinary expertise necessary to create buildings and communities that are in fact bio-inspired. Our graduates will impact both university and industrial settings, and they will change the relationship between the built environment and our planet.
