Lauren Willis, Assistant Director of
Employer Engagement and Recruitment Services, shared information about Virginia Tech’s Cooperative Education and Internship Program and Student Internship and Co-op Network.

Jim Henderson, Director of Employer Engagement and
Recruitment Services, discussed recruiting at Virginia Tech and how our team supports employers in recruiting opportunities and connecting across campus.

Stephanie Byers, Regional Internship Manager with InternshipsVA, shared resources available to Virginia employers interested in developing internship programs across Virginia.

On July 30, Career and Professional Development joined partners from across the Commonwealth to celebrate Virginia Intern Day, recognizing the impact of internships and work-based learning on students and communities.

Dr. Matthew Paul Cowley, Associate Vice Provost for Career and Professional Development, attended the celebration in Richmond alongside Jama Coartney, Program Manager for V-TOP. Dr. Cowley also served as a panelist, sharing insights on building high-impact work-based learning opportunities for students and employers.

We’re also proud that our Campus InternEXP program was recognized as a Top Employer for its commitment to supporting on-campus internships and student career readiness.

Happy Virginia Intern Day!

Today we are celebrating the incredible impact interns have on our workplaces, campuses, and communities. Interns bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and valuable skills that strengthen teams while gaining experiences that prepare them for their future careers.

To celebrate, we are highlighting Myla Gao, one of our outstanding interns who made an impact through multiple roles in our office and through Campus internEXP.

Myla graduated this May from the Pamplin College of Business with a degree in Management Consulting and Analytics. She was also recognized as one of Virginia’s Top 50 Interns by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).

During her time with us, Myla served in three roles through Virginia Tech’s on-campus internship program, Campus internEXP: Project and Event Coordinator for Student Employment Initiatives, Strategic Programs & Professional Development Operations Intern, and Career Outfitters Student Coordinator.

Through every role, Myla advocated for student success and demonstrated the incredible value interns bring to our teams. We are grateful for her hard work, dedication, and the impact she made during her time with us.

Thank you to all interns who continue to make a difference every day.
