We're continuing our student spotlight series with Kes Shallbetter and Malayna Cherbaka, whose project explored how thoughtful design can improve the everyday transit experience.

Kes Shallbetter and Malayna Cherbaka spent the semester redesigning Blacksburg Transit’s website route maps to be clearer and more rider-friendly.

They focused on accuracy, intuitive visuals, and quick readability. This included distinguishing inbound/outbound routes, adding landmark icons, and aligning the style with familiar map interfaces, all while keeping consistent with Blacksburg Transit's brand identity.

Last week, we celebrated the School of Design Awards Ceremony and AAD Grad Fest, an incredible night recognizing the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our students. From award winners to graduating seniors, it was a moment to reflect and celebrate everything you’ve accomplished. Huge congratulations to all, we’re so proud of you 🎉

Big month for our seniors 🎓 Over the past few weeks, presented at the Undergraduate Research Symposium, shared their work in DC at Meet the Grad, and wrapped up their final reviews. A lot of long hours, late nights, and big ideas all coming together. Huge congrats to all of our seniors, we’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what’s next 👏
