Students in our landscape architecture () Construction Documentation Studio welcomed community stakeholders from Wytheville, Virginia (), to Blacksburg for their second review of a project focused on Elizabeth Brown Park.

This review gave students the opportunity to hear directly from members of the Wytheville community and gain valuable feedback on their designs. Students will use this input to continue developing their projects and create designs that better respond to the specific needs, character, and priorities of the community.

Thank you to everyone who traveled to Blacksburg to participate in the review and share your time and expertise with our students. Opportunities like this provide an incredible real-world learning experience and allow our students to engage directly with the communities they are designing for.

Guess which major in the School of Design identifies with these clues👇
• Graduate from a program accredited by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), which qualifies you to sit for the Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer certification exam. The program has produced several winners of the NKBA “30 under 30” program for emerging professionals.
• Showcase your work and gain recognition by entering student design competitions sponsored by NKBA. Virginia Tech’s program has produced first-place winners in this national design competition.
• Complete a required internship that gives you real-world insight and valuable career preparation. Many students receive job offers as a direct result.
• Study with faculty who have written the textbooks, shaped the industry, and have earned induction into the NKBA Hall of Fame.

Our third-year Landscape Architecture studio is getting out and engaging with the community!

Last week, students traveled to the Town of Wytheville to tour Elizabeth Brown Park and engage with local community stakeholders. Students also led activities to hear directly from residents and community members about their experiences, ideas, and hopes for the park.

This visit is just the beginning! Throughout the semester, students will continue meeting with community members to gather feedback and learn how landscape architecture can respond to the community’s needs and aspirations.

We’re grateful to the Town of Wytheville and everyone who shared their time and ideas with our students!

Students in the School of Design spent four weeks in Florence, Italy, through the Interior Design in Italy study abroad program, using sketching to observe historic spaces, engage with culture, and find inspiration for their creative work.

Explore study abroad options at the Study Abroad Fair on Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Drillfield. Then stop by the Cowgill lobby on Sept. 30 to view the exhibit from the Italy trip.
