Meet Phil, Senior Consulting Meteorologist for Virginia Tech Emergency Management! 🦃
Phil joined Virginia Tech Emergency Management in 2025, bringing decades of weather expertise to the Hokie community. As VTEM’s Senior Consulting Meteorologist, he provides specialized weather insight that helps support emergency preparedness and decision-making across the university.
Before joining Virginia Tech, Phil spent 35 years with the National Weather Service, serving in forecasting and management roles across Missouri, Kansas, Ohio, Kentucky, and Virginia. His career included serving as the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg, where he worked to strengthen weather preparedness and communication throughout the region.
Phil’s experience and expertise help us better understand the hazards that weather can bring and, more importantly, turn that understanding into information that helps our community prepare.
And with that, we’re wrapping up our VTEM Spotlight series! 🧡 Throughout National Emergency Management Awareness Month, we’ve introduced you to some of the people behind the planning, preparedness, collaboration, and communication that happen every day at Virginia Tech.
While our spotlights may be ending, the work continues year-round. Together, our team remains committed to helping every Hokie . 💪
