Center for Vehicle Systems & Safety at Virginia Tech (CVeSS) The center is served by six full-time faculty, more than twenty graduate students, and a large number of undergraduate students and technical personnel.

The Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety (CVeSS) at Virginia Tech was established in 2004 by Dr. Mehdi Ahmadian, professor of Mechanical Engineering, and director of CVeSS. The center consists of four laboratories: The Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory (AVDL, established 1995), Intelligent Transport Laboratory (ITL, established 2008), Computational Multiphysics Systems Laboratory (CMS, establ

ished 2010), and Railway Technologies Laboratory (RTL, established 2004). Several other Virginia Tech faculty members and visiting scholars are CVeSS affiliate faculty.

It’s a BIG day here at CVeSS at we celebrate Dr. Mehdi Ahmadian turning 60! Dr. Ahmadian was welcomed to the office this morning by having to go “over the hill”, 60 black balloons filling his office, delicious cake and gifts to celebrate the special man he is! We wish him the best year yet!
