VCEMP Student Highlight - Kunj Bhalani
Kunj spent his Summer & now continuing as a co-op for ATCS, PLC as a Program Management and Project Controls Intern.
His responsibilities involved schedule development, creating comparison sheets, analyzing reports, claims evaluation, document management, and supporting proposals.
Kunj appreciated ATCS' supportive environment that nurtured his growth, the abundance of opportunities to develop new skills, and the heartwarming feeling of being a part of a close-knit family.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Pradyum mane
Pradyum spent his Summer & now continuing as a co-op for Caton Construction Group as a Engineering Intern in Charlottesville.
His responsibilities involved creating work plans, developing forward-looking schedule, facilitating coordination among 12 subcontractors, monitoring project schedule and conducting on-site inspections to ensure project progress and quality.
Pradyum appreciated Caton's core values that prioritize safety. He had opportunity to communicate directly with the president. Pradyum has accepted fulltime offer at Caton Construction group.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Pratik Malpure
Pratik spent his summer as Project Controls Intern for Procon Consulting, LLC. He got opportunity to work on diverse federal projects.
His responsibilities involved analyzing change orders, RFIs, and Submittals for generating responses, To prepare & update schedules using Primavera P6. He also participated in weekly project progress meetings, risk management meetings & business development meetings.
Pratik appreciated the positive work culture, conducive learning environment, and easy accessibility to everyone.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Akshil Bhinsara
Akshil spent his summer & is now continuing as a co-op for Allan Myers/FAM Construction as a Field Engineering Intern/QC on I-66 project.
His responsibilities involved inspecting the quality of roadway items and utilities with different stakeholders of I-66 and creatibg punch lists for 1500+ issues on Oracle Aconex by going on 50+ walkthroughs along the project. Additionally, he was able to assist in material documentation and quality inspections of bridges (dry run and wet checks), concrete during concrete pours and crack mapping. He also verified the successful resolution of issues and submitted completed items for closure.
Akshil appreciated Allan Myers' focus on employee safety as well as the friendly and helpful nature of colleagues. He also enjoyed the opportunity to meet the company's senior executives.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Joseph James
Joseph spent his summer & continuing now as a co-op for the Federal Highway Administration as a Pathway Intern - Data Analyst.
His responsibilities involved validating noise and air pollution data with a Transportation Data Analyst, then creating a data management plan for transporting data from one data hub to another, collaborating with other federal agencies to create a dataset that includes the EV charging station assets and energy infrastructure needed to operate the EV charging stations and observing the Data Visualization Center initial kickoff calls to understand the steps in the process for creating dashboards for agencies.
Joseph appreciated the flexibility to work with other government agencies, align his educational experience to complete tasks at the internship, the ability to utilize his creativity to create data visualizations for the FHWA.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Charlotte Clyde
Charlotte spent her Summer as a Project Engineer Intern for Whiting-Turner in Richmond for the CoStar Richmond Campus project.
Her responsibilities involved reviewing submittals and sending them to the design team when acceptable, updating budgets based on issued bulletins, preparing RFIs and updating/tracking the RFI log, and tracking excavation work to monitor and paying subcontractors accordingly (shoring, lagging, tie-ins, and underpinning of the excavation and geostructural work).
Charlotte appreciated that they involved the interns in work that was actually used and the comradery of the project team.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Sherlock Banks II
Sherlock spent his Spring & Summer as a co-op for Jacobs as a Construction Engineering Management Intern.
His responsibilities involved tracking and inspecting 150+ modular concrete structures, conducting on-site QA for concrete construction & welding connections, tracking the dynamic productivity rate of modular construction, and designing reporting logs for various use cases.
Sherlock appreciated Jacobs' unwavering commitment to a "people-first" brand culture.

VCEMP Student Highlight - Pratik Bhange
Pratik spent his summer as an intern for Volkert & Associates, Inc. as a Quality Assurance Inspector.
His responsibilities were:
- Completing daily reports of structural and testing activities, progress, delays, etc.
- Providing QC monitoring and testing concrete pours per requirements of VDOT standards and compliance with ACI and contract guidelines.
- Inspection materials, procedures, and workmanship of contractors and maintain visual surveillance confirming that work was completed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Maintaining communication with field engineers and site superintendent relating to issues of non-compliance.
- Assisting with construction administration support tasks such as attending meetings to take meeting minutes, update tracking logs, check and report on progress status.
Pratik had a great experience, and he really enjoyed the culture and the people at Volkert

A small but hardy group of VCEMP students embarked on a hiking adventure to the Cascades waterfall on Saturday, September 16th. Students enjoyed spending time together in a beautiful and serene setting.
