As course registration begins, Virginia Tech's new AI minor is a chance to future-proof any degree and gain skills employers increasingly value across industries.
Whether your student is studying business, engineering, architecture, journalism, performing arts, education, public policy, or any other major, artificial intelligence will be part of their future workplace. The AI minor helps students build practical AI skills, understand the technology's impact, and apply it to their careers.
Undergrad students can declare the minor starting on Aug. 3, and eligible courses can be added to schedules now.

New artificial intelligence minor launches this fall The interdisciplinary minor will give students in every major the opportunity to build artificial intelligence skills, explore ethical impacts, and use that information in fields ranging from business and public policy to music and filmmaking.

When Virginia Tech students traveled to Egypt this spring, the experience became about far more than seeing the pyramids. It became about collaboration, friendship, and learning alongside Egyptian students on real-world computer science projects.
Before departure, changing events in the Middle East raised understandable concerns. Virginia Techβs Global Education Office and Global Travel Oversight Committee carefully reviewed conditions, shared guidance and resources with students, and maintained open communication so families and students could make informed decisions with confidence.
For the Hokies who went, the result was a life-changing experience filled with global teamwork, cultural exchange, and friendships that continue long after the trip ended. ππ§‘
