Bradley Study Center A home and a hub for thoughtful faith at Virginia Tech

Bradley Study Center is a Christian study center at Virginia Tech that serves as a resource and connection for Christian students and faculty to integrate their faith into the work they do in the university, and their future vocations and careers. The Center makes space on campus for a thoughtful exploration of the Christian faith for the whole university community, through lectures & talks, discussion groups, lunches, and hospitality.

Check out the upcoming short course starting next week!!

Led by veterinarian Mary McDonald, this course will explore Christian thought about animals throughout history and discuss the implications for society and how we live our lives today.
With readings from church fathers like Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, philosophers like Descartes, and modern thinkers like C.S. Lewis, we'll think about attitudes towards creation, the problem of animal pain and the question of animal redemption, and consider a Christian approach toward animals. We will also enjoy guest lectures by Cyril Clarke and Dan Givens.

Fred is from Salem, VA and went to Virginia Tech in the 1980s. He later got his MS in AI. He is married and has three adult kids.

She is originally from Minnesota. She and her husband have lived in Blacksburg for over 15 years. Anita works in Newman Library and is a volunteer Sunday school teacher at the River Anglican Church.

He is a Blacksburg native born and raised 🙌 and he is getting his degree in communications from Virginia Tech.

Fun facts about Nathan: I have a twin sister with whom I’ve done almost everything and who is the same major as me at Virginia Tech. I also love collecting birthdays of people around campus ministries and churches to be able to wish them happy birthday and celebrate them; I currently have almost 500 birthdays in my calendar! 🥳

Clara is from Blacksburg, VA and is doing her undergrad at Virginia Tech in math.

Fun facts about Clara:
- she does cross country mountain bike racing and likes really long hikes
- she loves the Pythagorean theorem

Does AI help and/or hinder learning and creativity?
Are the impacts environmentally and economically equitable?
Is AI the latest technological Pandora's Box?

Last but not least, meet our Executive Director, Tim Johnson!

"Broadly speaking I am from the Upper Midwest having been born in Minnesota, and then raised in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Something people may not know about me is that I am adopted and have never met my biological parents. God blessed me with a wonderful family for which I am eternally grateful. So, don't blame my legal parents for my strange idiosyncracies 😊.

Fun facts: When I was in the political realm I met former President George Bush, Sr. ( #41) and then Vice-President Dan Quayle at campaign events, and Dan Quayle also handed me my diploma at my graduation from West Point. Having spent many years in WI, I am a bit of a cheese snob, but, gotta say, I love the Appalachian cheese you can get at Ghetto Kroger."
