HAPPY FIRST WEEK OF CLASSES, HOKIES! We have some more super fun events this week, so stop by, enjoy, and meet some more friendly faces!

On Monday (8/24), come find us on the Library Plaza from 9am-2pm for our FDOC COFFEE HANDOUT! We will have FREE COFFEE for you to start the semester strong and caffeinated! We’ll also have juices and tons of breakfast snacks!☕🍩🥐

Then on Tuesday (8/25), join us from 6:30-8pm for SNACK BAR BINGO at the Wesley building (209 W. Roanoke St.)! We’ll have loads of fun, snacks, and of course BINGO!🔢🥨🍫

On Wednesday (8/26), come TIE-DYE WITH WESLEY on Eggleston Quad from 11am-3pm! We will have t-shirts, bags, and scrunchies to tie-dye for FREE!🌈👕

Also on Wednesday (8/26), we have our FIRST WORSHIP AND S’MORES of the semester! Join us at 7:30pm in our building (209 W. Roanoke St.) for music, worship, fellowship, and yummy s’mores!🔥🍫🍪

To round out our Weeks of Welcome, on Friday (8/28), we’ll be at GOBBLERFEST from 4-7pm! Come find us and get some special Wesley merch while supplies last!🧡🦃

WELCOME TO VIRGINIA TECH, HOKIES! 🧡🦃

Whether you’re a new student or returning student, Wesley has so many fun events planned just for you during WEEKS OF WELCOME 2026!!

It all starts on Wednesday (8/19) with our KICKOFF COOKOUT! You can stop by the Wesley building anytime between 5:30-8:30pm for an evening filled with FREE FOOD, fun, and community! There will be tons of burgers, hot dogs, sides, and desserts (vegan/dietary inclusive options). There will also be volleyball, ping pong, and plenty of people to meet! You can find us at 209 W. Roanoke St., right across from CID and the Architecture Annex. 🍔🌭

Then on Friday (8/21), join us for MARIOKART NIGHT at the Wesley Building, 209 W. Roanoke St., anytime between 7-9pm! We’ll have lots of snacks and tons of fun racing each other in Mario Kart battles! Get Ready, Set, Race! 🏁🏎️💨

On Saturday (8/22), join us for the Faith Communities at VT Ice Cream Social on Eggleston Quad where we will be tabling and enjoying tasty ice cream from 4-5:30pm!🍦

Also on Saturday (8/23), stop by New Res Hall Quad for GRASS BASH - LAWN GAMES WITH WESLEY anytime between 6:30-9pm! We'll have tons of fun lawn games where you can hang out, meet new friends, laugh, and enjoy a great evening. Whether you're super competitive or just want to have fun, there's something for everyone! 🏐☀️

To round out our first Week of Welcome, find us outside Hokie Grill at Owens Dining Hall on Sunday (8/23) for MEET YOUR MAJOR! Stop by our table anytime between 2-4pm to connect with fellow students in your major over popsicles and conversation. You never know who you’ll meet or how they can help!📚🏫

Wesley’s events are open to EVERYONE, regardless of any personal identifiers, and we’d love to have you join us! We can’t wait to meet and see all of y’all, and good luck with this semester!

Introducing our Student Campus Minister for the 2026-2027 school year, Luke Henshaw! Luke is a Senior studying Building Construction.

Hey Luke! What have you been up to this summer? “This summer, I have been working an internship with Pizzano Contractors in Alexandria, VA, along with spending time with family and friends.”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “As the student campus minister, I lead our core ministry team with the help of Bret. I am also the student representative for Wesley to Virginia Tech, meaning I handle a lot of responsibilities with keeping Wesley involved with the university.”

What are you excited for this school year? “So much!!! I can’t wait to see what the new year of Wesley brings for every ministry area!! All of our teams are super amazing and I know they are going to make this year incredible with all that they do. Also, it’s my senior year, so I look forward to all the fun that comes with that!!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Stay optimistic about all that you do!! College comes with a lot of new experiences, and I think the best way to decide what you like and don’t like is by having a positive outlook!!”

Introducing our Worship Minister for the 2026-2027 school year, Laura Prince! Laura is a Senior studying Chemistry with a minor in Applied Music.

Hey Laura! What have you been up to this summer? “I've been working in a research lab on campus and playing lots of trumpet.”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “As worship minister, I help to ensure our Wednesday night worship runs smoothly. I also play piano in the band!”

What are you excited for this school year? “I'm excited to make deeper connections with my current friends and make new ones!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Do everything you can and meet everyone you can!! It goes by super fast so take advantage of all the opportunities while you’re here. Don’t be too consumed by school or work, enjoy your time and fill it with things YOU are interested in! Find what’s going to make your experience enjoyable and lean into it.”

Introducing our Outreach Minister for the 2026-2027 school year, Amanda Todd! Amanda is a Junior studying HNFE - Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Public Health.

Hey Amanda! What have you been up to this summer? “This summer I've been working, taking a summer class, hanging out with friends and family, and relaxing a lot!”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “As Outreach Minister, my team and I create and plan events to expand the reach of Wesley and show the Virginia Tech community how we 'love out loud' across our campus and larger community!”

What are you excited for this school year? “I'm excited to meet new friends and catch up with old friends! I am also excited for football season, going on hikes, and exploring more of Blacksburg!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Get out of your comfort zone! This new chapter can be scary, but I promise it's so much better when you join clubs, groups, or organizations and meet some friends along the way! Remember to live in the moment, take advantage of the opportunities that are offered to you, and have fun!!”

Introducing our Missions Minister for the 2026-2027 school year, Tala Sahab! Tala is a Senior studying Political Science with a minor in Philosophy.

Hey Tala! What have you been up to this summer? “I’ve been taking a couple courses and working at a few daycares!”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “I help to run 209 marketplace (our food pantry) and Fun 143 (our tutoring program). I also plan and manage any other service projects we may be doing!”

What are you excited for this school year? “I’m excited to be able to meet new amazing people and to explore new service projects!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Put yourself out there! Join a club, go to that interest meeting even if you’re there alone! That’s how you’ll meet some of your best friends!”

Introducing our Fellowship Minister for the 2026-2027 school year, Griffin Hatcher! Griffin is a Junior studying Industrial Design with a minor in Pathways to Sustainability.

Hey Griffin! What have you been up to this summer? “I spent the summer working at Camp Alta Mons as the Pool Coordinator; it's been lots of swimming and checking pool chemical levels! More recently, I’ve been knee-deep in some personal design projects, like updating my portfolio and working on a cool lamp.”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “As Fellowship Minister, I lead the Fellowship Team which plans our weekly Family Dinners, Intramural Sports Teams, and other fun events like hikes and trivia nights!”

What are you excited for this school year? “I am excited to find some new friends to watch Jeopardy and kick around a hacky sack with.”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Get lost and spend time walking around Blacksburg without a purpose! You might notice some small moments you'd miss if you're always rushing around.”

Hey Hannah! What have you been up to this summer? “Working as a software development intern!”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “I am in charge of our small groups called communities of grace (CoGs) and co-lead the one for freshman! I also work with FiG star to help create our friends in grace pairings!”

What are you excited for this school year? “Meeting more people and growing our Wesley community!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Go to campus events! They are a good way to meet other students!”

Hey Minoka! What have you been up to this summer? “Just enjoying time with family. and a trip to the beach!”

Can you give us a brief description of your role here at Wesley? “I help to engage our alumni and friends through financial investments to Wesley.”

What are you excited for this upcoming year? “Seeing us complete the capital campaign!”

What advice do you have for incoming students? “Stay curious. Meet people that you might not normally talk to! Go to worship.. its good for your spirit :) “
