Last week, Virginia Tech’s Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) visited Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) for a day of research discussions, shipyard tours, and alumni engagement! ⚓️

During the annual Alumni Corporate Network gathering, ECE Department Head Dr. Qingyang (Rose) Hu and NNS leadership highlighted how collaboration between Hokies and NNS drives innovation and advances critical engineering goals. The day wrapped up with a fantastic networking reception bringing together faculty, leadership, and alumni.

Virginia Tech’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department is leading the way in semiconductor innovation! 🔬⚡

Virginia Tech has been awarded a $20M grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to build an AI-powered, cloud-accessible semiconductor laboratory! This lab will work to make advanced chip research accessible across the country.

Huge congratulations to ECE Department Head Dr. Rose Hu (Principal Investigator), Dr. Wei Zhou (Co-PI), Dr. Zin Lin, and the entire multidisciplinary Virginia Tech team on this transformative achievement! 🎉

Launching a rocket in -40° weather! 🚀🥶

Virginia Tech and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration teamed up in Alaska to send the PolarNOx experiment into the atmosphere. Their goal? Study how the Northern Lights create gas that affects ozone levels and winter weather patterns.

Early results are already giving scientists exciting new insights!

Huge congratulations to Virginia Tech ECE graduate student Woojun Lee on receiving the prestigious IEEE Microwave Theory & Technology Society (MTT-S) Graduate Fellowship! 🌟

As a proud member of the MICS group and Wireless @ Virginia Tech, Woojun has been awarded this highly competitive global honor—one of only 15 granted annually to recognize top-tier research and academic excellence in the microwave and RF field.

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is incredibly proud of Woojun for representing our community on the world stage and pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation.
