Meet Jared, the Vice President!
Jared is a senior in Chemical Engineering also minoring in Chemistry and Math. Outside of AIChE, Jared is very involved in Chem-E-Car and Alpha Chi Sigma! Jared does research with Dr. Ducker on surfaces to deactivate CoVID. In the past, he co-oped with ExxonMobil and interned with Trex Composite Decking. After graduation, Jared wants to pursue a PhD in Polymer Chemistry or Engineering!
We cannot wait to see everything you will accomplish!

Meet Carlos, out Treasurer!
Carlos is senior in Chemical Engineering with a minors in Economics and Chemistry. He just completed a three term co-op with Eastman Chemicals!
“The year-long experience was divided into three rotations with different roles each. On my first rotation, I worked in the Polymers Process Technology group as a Process Improvement Engineer. On the second rotation, I worked in the Process Design and Optimization group as a Process Engineer. Currently, on my third rotation, I am working in the Heat Transfer Fluids Marketing group.”
After graduation, he wants to work in the energy or chemical industry. Outside of AIChE, Carlos is very involved in many organizations like ChemE Car, Alpha Chi Sigma, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
Fun Fact: He was born in Bolivia!
We cannot wait to see everything you will accomplish!

Meet Rachael, our secretary!

Rachel is a fifth year at Virginia Tech!

“I wanted to try all possible career paths from different industries to different positions. I've worked in clean and dirty environments, had desk, lab, and field positions, and worked in both a corporate and a factory setting.”
Rachel has many professional experiences with multiple co-op and internships at different companies like Mondelez International, Wintek Corp, Carmeuse Lime & Stone, and Par Pharaceutical.
After graduation, she would love to work as a corporate process engineer for a consumer good company!
We cannot wait to see everything you will accomplish this year!

Next is our Historian, Agustin!

He is a Junior in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. "I am an undergraduate researcher for Dr. Micheal Schulz in the chemistry department. My goal is to help understand how polymer architecture can effect metal chelation. We hope that this research will help in extracting rare earth elements from waste such as coal ash or spent nuclear fuel.

I also completed an internship at Cree | Wolfspeed, a semiconductor company focused on power and RF products. There I was part of the processes engineering team that sliced the wafers from the crystals and prepared them for later processing. After getting my degree I would like to work with advanced materials. That means going to graduate school and perusing careers that make novel and interesting materials." Other than AIChE, he is part of Alpha Phi Omega, Trail and Ultra Club at VT.

Fun Fact: "I love pirate movies!"

Meet Matt, our Banquet Chair!

He is a junior in ChemE and other than AIChE, he is part of Chem-E-Car Controls Subteam and Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Past Experience: "Co-op terms with ExxonMobil Spring and Summer 2019 in Beaumont, Texas. Also Summer 2020." Career Goals: "Oil & Gas industry - probably as a Process Design Engineer"

Fun fact: "My entire family plays competitive Monopoly!! (We’ve won like $2K as a family)"

Next, our Mentorship Chair, Shi Qi!

Shi Qi is a Senior in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. As Mentorship Chair, she organizes events linking Upperclassmen and Underclassmen within ChE to help with their college journey. "I did an internship with Air Products in Singapore in which I performed data collection and analysis and collaborated with the Belgium branch of the company to create a new software planning system. Additionally, I have been working in Dr. Zhu's lab studying nano-particle catalysis as undergraduate research. For my senior year, I will be part of Virginia Tech's Office of Sustainability internship program!
For the most part of my childhood, I lived in Switzerland where they put a large emphasis on sustainability and the importance of preserving the environment. Since, my career goal and passion is to work in alternative energy as a researcher and developer. Other than AIChE, I am largely involved with the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers and I am a figure skater!"

Meet Paul, our SEC Representative!

He is a Senior in Chemical Engineering with Minors in Biomedical Engineering and Math.

"I worked at the only lithium mine in North America located in Silver Peak, Nevada With The Albemarle Corporation. I've done patent development With the Medical College of Virginia and created functional prototypes using 3D printing. I have written drivers and software at Virginia Commonwealth University for process control. I am Currently In the Rajagopalan Lab were my research focus is on regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
Once I graduate, I plan to look for a job as a technical solutions engineer or a job focusing on new product development. I just want a job that takes advantage of my knowledge in embedded systems, CAD design, and 3D printing. Whether it be a new programming language or method of separating chemicals, I want a job where I learn a new technical skill every day. Other than AIChE, I am a member of The Virginia Tech Chemical Engineering Car and I am the SEC representative for the team and a member of the controls team. I build a lot of crazy electronics and robots. My most popular creation is an electronic cigarette that is controlled by brain waves using an EEG probe I made. If you ever see me around campus ask what I'm 3D printing and you're sure to get an interesting response."
