Update – March 19, 2020
Parents & Patrons,
As we have made preparations for our response to the COVID-19 situation in our community and our state, I want to convey our priorities as we progress through this situation:
#1 – Ensure the students who need meals get them
#2 – Ensure our families have access to academic support materials
#3 – Ensure we are doing our part to improve, not worsen, the situation in our community
With these established priorities, we need to make some clarifying statements and give some updates.
Bronco Bus Bites
We will begin delivering meals this Monday, March 23rd. Sack lunches will be available via either bus routes or “grab n’ go” at most school sites. Which bus routes will be used? We will use afternoon elementary “take home” bus routes for our delivery. This was the easiest and most efficient method to use for this process. A complete list of stops can be found at:
https://www.bfsdtransportation.org/bus-stop-index
The following schools will serve as “Grab n’ Go” sites as well: Fort Hall Elementary, Donald D. Stalker Elementary, I.T. Stoddard Elementary, Ridge Crest Elementary, Groveland Elementary, Wapello Elementary, Blackfoot Heritage Sixth Grade, Mountain View Middle School, and Independence High School. The site of Blackfoot High School will be serviced using I.T. Stoddard. Once we do our first run of the meal routes, we will be better informed regarding potential stop times. Please be patient with us as we work through this. We are anticipating the need to work out some kinks the first day or two of this process.
Academic Support Materials
We originally planned on distributing academic support materials for K-6th students on Monday during the first Bronco Bus Bites run. After careful consideration, we think that might be too much for the first run. Therefore, we are preparing to distribute K-6th support material on Tuesday, March 24th. This will be done on the Bronco Bus Bites routes, as well as the school “Grab n’ Go” locations. Secondary students: we anticipate having material prepared by Monday, March 30th. We believe this will be a mixed approach with options for technological access and nontechnological access. Special Education students (including preschool students): will receive individualized support materials that will be created to address their needs. We will have these materials available at each school site during meal delivery times when the general education materials become available. If you are unable to retrieve the needed materials at this time, please contact our Student Support Services Center at 208-785-8835 to make arrangements.
Please understand we are doing our best to support our students and their families during this time. Starting Monday, March 30th all schools will have open office hours from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please feel free to contact the schools for assistance. For the time being, feel free to contact our District Office at 208-785-8800 if you need any further clarification.
Sincerely,
Brian Kress
