Another winter season of 4-H Shooting Sports Project (Archery, Air Rifle, Air Pistol) is complete, with a possible summer session of Archery yet to be scheduled.

We would like your feed back about what went well, and what could be improved while we evaluate this year in preparation for the next. This request for feed back includes all parents, guardians, and 4-H youth athletes that were able to attend any 2025 shooting sports project sessions, to either participate, observe, or help out (set up and clean up). If you are interested in giving in person feedback, the leaders of Jackson County 4-H Shooting Sports Project will be meeting at Bridge Church in Black River Falls on Sunday, March 30th at 2:00 pm. If you do not wish to present feed back in person, or are not able to attend, feel free to email your ideas and thoughts on Jackson County 4-H Shooting Sports Project to our leaders.

Do you know how to tell the difference between the track of a wolf and a large dog? There are several factors to consider when identifying a track.

Shape. As you can see, the dog track is rounder than a wolf's track. It is smaller, and the spaces between the pads are different. Be aware that the substance stepped into can sometimes distort features of the print. (See photo A)

The pattern of the track. A dog's tracks are front foot right, back right, front foot left, and back left. The pattern of a wolf track is one after the other in more of a straight line. (See photo B)

The behavior of the animal. A wolf is a directional creature, moving along a clear path. A dog wanders, exploring items along the way.

For those of you sitting on the fence over getting certified as a 4H Shooting Sports instructor, there is a leader certification training being held on Saturday, May 4th in Eau Claire. The disciplines of Archery, Air Rifle/Rifle, Muzzleloader and Shotgun will be offered. The registration deadline is May 1st, 2024. You must be a VIP trained 4H leader in order to participate. What a great Winter session of Archery! You all did a wonderful job and we hope you had fun learning more about Archery.
Air Rifle and Air Pistol will be starting up on Saturday, February 24th at Shaftbusters in Black River Falls WI. Air Rifle starts at 10 and goes to 11, Air Pistol starts at 11 and goes to 12. If you are interested in these disciplines, please message me or let Justin know. We will need assistance the first day for moving equipment, will let you know what time that will begin.
