The Spartans got to see some legendary swimming by 3x Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines! Fun fact: he also invented the track start for swimmers. It was amazing being able to learn from him and see the kids get so invested!

This weekend has been an incredible one for Bixby Swimming.

We kicked off the Oklahoma Long Course State Championship on Thursday night with Cami Miller taking on one of the toughest events in swimming, the 1,500 meter freestyle. There is nothing easy about racing the mile, especially at a championship meet, but Cami stepped up, raced her heart out from start to finish, and earned an outstanding second place finish. I couldn't be more proud of the way she competed.

From that first race on Thursday until now, our swimmers have continued to demonstrate exactly what Bixby Swimming is all about: hard work, resilience, teamwork, and championship level racing.

Our 13 and 14 girls have been phenomenal, winning both the 400 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Our 11 and 12 girls have also had an outstanding meet, earning third place in both the 400 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Throughout the weekend, we've had numerous swimmers stand on the podium and many more qualify for finals. Every swimmer who earns a second swim and scores points is making a difference for this team.

I've been telling our swimmers all weekend to focus on scoring points. Of course we want personal bests, but championship swimming is about competing. Whether you drop time or not, every place matters. Every point matters. Those points add up, and that's how teams build championship performances.

I am incredibly thankful for every swimmer who has contributed to this meet. Every race has mattered, and every athlete has played a role in where we are today.

We still have one more day to go, and there are some exciting opportunities ahead. The medley relay will be one of the highlights, and our 13 and 14 girls will be chasing the hat trick by trying to capture all three relay titles. It won't be easy, but I know they'll be ready to battle.

What has impressed me the most isn't just the medals or the points. It's the growth of this team. Our swimmers have listened to their coaches, trusted their race strategies, embraced the taper, and answered the call when it mattered most. That's what championship teams do, and that's exactly what we're building at Bixby.

So far, we've had four swimmers earn AAA times and qualify for the Zone Championship next week in Evansville, Indiana: Cami Miller, Bailey Wise, Mya Paladin, and Clivia Zhu. Congratulations! Achieving those cuts at the biggest meet of the season says everything about your preparation, your confidence, and your determination. You earned it.

I also want to thank our families. Hearing the Bixby cheering section throughout the meet has been incredible. You can always look into the stands and know exactly where our team is. Your support means more than you know.

Thank you as well to everyone who volunteered to time, officiate, and help make this championship run smoothly. Your willingness to serve continues to strengthen our program.

We've got one more day, Bixby.

Let's finish the way we've raced all weekend, with confidence, toughness, and pride.

Stay strong. Hold Fast.

Hello Spartan family!

Even in the summer time, our team stays busy. Coach David recently coached at the Auburn Swim Camp and came away with many helpful training tips, new workouts, and inspiration. He definitely felt the effects of a long week and a lot of learning, but he’s incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Every day he gained new knowledge, drills, and coaching concepts that he cannot wait to bring back to Bixby. Being surrounded by coaches from an SEC championship program, along with coaches who have worked with Olympians and world champions, was an amazing experience. He is excited to bring these ideas home and continue helping our swimmers reach their full potential.

Some of the things he was most impressed by was the attention to detail- every set and drill had a purpose, and the energy was contagious.

He also was encouraged to see that the things we coach at Bixby are encouraged by the highest level of programs too. We practice the way we compete every single set. We have to have heart. You’ve got to push yourselves, and you’ve got to push your teammates. That's what’s going to take Bixby to the championship level. He’s now seen it firsthand from an SEC Division I championship-caliber team.

He is looking forward to seeing everyone at the camps- see you on deck!
