Still Being Told to “Wait and See”?
A parent recently shared that she had been concerned about her child’s reading for more than a year. Each time she asked for help, she heard the same advice: “Let’s give it more time.”
But homework kept getting harder. Her child began avoiding books and saying, “I’m just not a good reader.”
The problem wasn’t effort or intelligence. Her child was missing specific reading skills that needed direct, targeted instruction.

“I knew something wasn’t right… but everyone kept telling me not to worry.”

One of the first things parents tell us is, “I just knew something wasn’t right.”

She couldn’t point to one specific moment. It was a collection of little things—homework taking too long, familiar words suddenly seeming new, and excuses whenever it was time to read.

Everyone told her not to worry. “Children develop at different rates,” they said. But she saw how hard her child was working, and something in her gut kept telling her to look closer.

When she finally sought answers, she discovered that her child wasn’t lazy or lacking intelligence. There were specific reading skills that needed support.
