5th grade track meet fun!

Field Day fun!!!

4th graders ended their week by going to the Heritage Center and the Capitol.

At the Heritage Center, students got to use their STEM and tinkering skills learned in science to engineer a wind turbine that would spin when the wind was blowing. They also got to have a behind the scenes tour of the archives where the got to see the original Constitution of North Dakota from 1889! They also toured the 3 main galleries.

At the Capitol, they got a tour that ranged from seeing “The Monkey Room” and all the way up to the top on the 18th floor!

Third grade learned all about agriculture at Ag Day in Mandan. They learned about sheep shearing, farm safety, equipment from years ago, soil conservation, beekeeping, and more!

This past Saturday, May 2, Ellie was honored for her 2nd place finish in the Jr. Duck Stamp Contest for the state of North Dakota!!! The award ceremony took place at the Heritage Center! Her print will travel around the state as part of a traveling exhibition. 👏

4th graders have had a busy 3 days full of science!

On Monday, groups performed their own “Rube Goldberg Machines”. Students were put into groups and had to create a chain reaction machine with at least 4 energy transfers. They really learned the virtue of patience and great problem solving skills when parts of their machines failed (during the tinker stages days prior).

On Tuesday, they ventured out into the cold and wind and did some fishing and hiking at ND Game and Fish. No fish were hungry and thankfully, neither were the ticks!

Today, Dana Hager from Basin Electric came into the classroom to talk about all things ENERGY! The highlight of the talk was of course the static electricity ball! Even the teachers got in on the fun! Dana talked about the differences between renewable and nonrenewable energy, insulators and conductors, all the different types of energy, and more!

Mrs. Geiger’s Mom surprised the teachers and staff today with some energy teas from Active Life Nutrition. Thank you so much-they were delicious!
