You may have noticed our recently installed graphics when visiting for conferences. We firmly believe, "Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat". Our Southside pride is strong and is showcased with several members of our staff personally attending both Wachter and Bismarck High School.

Fun Fact - Mr. Haux attended Wachter Junior High for 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. 5th grade was offered at WJH for only 1 year (1972) while new elementary schools were being built.

Measure 2 was placed on the ballot due to citizen petitions. School meals are important for all ND students and schools, but our ND citizens put the question on the ballot.

Two Measure 1s. Two very different questions.

I’ve heard from a few people who are understandably confused by seeing two different “Measure 1” questions connected to the November election.

Here’s the simple explanation:
Statewide Constitutional Measure No. 1 was placed on the ballot by the North Dakota Legislature. It is a statewide question dealing with the percentage of votes required to amend the North Dakota Constitution—changing the requirement from a simple majority to 60% approval.

BPS Measure 1 was placed on the ballot by the Bismarck School Board. It is a local school bond question that applies specifically to Bismarck Public Schools and addresses identified facility needs in our district.

They are completely separate measures. BPS did not propose or place the statewide constitutional measure on the ballot, and the fact that both are numbered “1” is understandably creating some confusion.

So, when you see BPS Measure 1 in our information, on signs, or in community conversations, we are talking specifically about the Bismarck Public Schools bond measure.

Two Measure 1s. Two separate questions. Two separate decisions for voters.

The Leopards 7th grade English classes immersed themselves today in Roald Dahl’s short story “The Landlady.” They had a tea party as they read the story and were taught by the characters themselves! (played by Mr. Brash and Mrs. Reardon)

8th graders at Wachter Middle School in Mrs. Iverson-Houston's FACS classes had their Restaurant Day last week. This is our second year doing this and it is amazing! Students learned customer service and restaurant service and then served a meal to our amazing staff. Thanks MacKenzy Houston for sharing your week with us! It was a great day to be a Wildcat!

Mrs. Shetler’s 8th grade US History class participated in a Decades Museum on Friday, October 2nd. The students explored the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s decades with help from some amazing volunteers who shared their experiences using primary and secondary sources! We had multiple WMS parents, former and future WMS parents, WMS grandparents, and a school board member come in today. The students’ interest in our country’s history over these decades was phenomenal to see and experience in class!

It was Middle School Appreciation Night at the BHS volleyball game! The Wildcats did a great job cheering on the Demons!!
