🎉 North Dakota Hits a Major Milestone in Addiction Counseling Workforce Growth 🎉

On THIS DAY, there are currently 40 addiction counseling trainees actively training across the state of North Dakota! 🌟

This is an incredibly exciting time to be part of the addiction counseling profession and a true reflection of what can happen when agencies, clinical supervisors, universities, colleges, and workforce partners come together with a shared mission.

A huge kudos to the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment agencies, dedicated clinical supervisors, and higher education partners throughout the state who continue to invest in the future of behavioral health. Your commitment to training, mentoring, and supporting future addiction counselors is making a statewide impact. 💙

North Dakota is on a mission to strengthen and grow the addiction counseling workforce. Between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, there are currently 70 individuals in the pipeline who have either:
✔️ Graduated from training
✔️ Become licensed in North Dakota
✔️ Or are actively training right now

That is 70 individuals helping build the future of addiction treatment and recovery services across our state.

This growth represents more than numbers — it represents hope, access to care, stronger communities, and a brighter future for individuals and families affected by addiction. Everyone involved in building these programs and opportunities should be incredibly proud of what has been accomplished. 👏

🌟 TAAP Continues to Grow Across North Dakota 🌟

The Training Academy for Addiction Professionals (TAAP) has experienced exponential growth in May and currently has 26 addiction counselor trainees training throughout the state! Of those, 14 trainees are located in the Bismarck area alone.

While TAAP is proud of this growth, the success of addiction counselor training does not happen alone. Much of this momentum is directly connected to the strong student pipelines created through programs like Minot State University and University of Mary. Both universities are doing an excellent job helping students explore pathways into addiction counseling and preparing them for clinical training opportunities.

If you are currently pursuing a degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice, mental health counseling, or another behavioral health field, consider talking with your advisor about adding addiction counseling coursework to your degree plan. Don’t wait until you are almost finished with your degree to explore these opportunities. In many cases, addiction counseling courses can be incorporated into your current program and may even open the door to dual licensure opportunities in the future.

No matter what role you choose within behavioral health, healthcare, criminal justice, or human services, there is a strong possibility you will work with individuals and families impacted by addiction. Being prepared with addiction-specific education and training can make a tremendous difference in the care and support you provide. 💙
