Historical Face of the Day: Grant Wood (1891-1942)

Meet Grant Wood, the American artist best known for painting American Gothic, one of the most recognizable images in American art history.

Born in rural Iowa, Wood celebrated life in the Midwest through his paintings, capturing the people, landscapes, and traditions of small-town America. His work helped define a distinctly American style of art during the 1930s.

Fun Fact: The two people in American Gothic were not actually a married couple. They were Wood's sister and his dentist, who posed for the famous painting.
