🧠Week 1 at Dakota Alpha: Spotlight on Attention!
We're kicking off an exciting 5-week collaborative project with Dakota Alpha — a local facility serving individuals with acquired brain injuries.
This week's focus? Attention. Think of it like a spotlight 🔦 — we practiced widening, zooming, and fine-tuning our lens together with residents. What an incredible first week with the best teachers--the people we get to serve!
Huge shoutout to our grad student clinicians leading the way: Katelyn, Cambree, and Allie! 💙💛
Stay tuned for 4 more weeks of learning, growing, and connecting. We can't wait to share the journey! 🙌

University of Mary offers free health clinics to community
Healthcare is expensive, and sometimes the services people need aren’t covered by insurance. The University of Mary is helping fill that gap.

We are proud to serve our community while providing students with meaningful experiences that prepare them to become skilled and compassionate speech-language pathologists. 💙🧡
Having a voice is a gift. Helping others find theirs is a privilege.
At the University of Mary, students in our Communication Sciences and Disorders program are serving children, adult learners, and seniors across the Bismarck-Mandan community, gaining hands-on experience while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
From supporting early childhood literacy to helping adult English learners build confidence in communication, these experiences are shaping compassionate, highly skilled future speech-language pathologists.
As the need for experienced professionals continues to grow, programs like this matter more than ever.

Bismarck Public Schools Assistive Technology Specialist Larissa Schwab joined our graduate-level Autism course last week as a guest lecturer. She shared her expertise on assistive technology and supports commonly used with autistic students, providing valuable insight into meaningful and effective ways to support learners. This experience came at the perfect time, as our students prepare to begin their externships this fall.
Following the presentation, our graduate students created their own visual supports and structured activities with guidance from Larissa and Mrs. Little. They then had the opportunity to implement their supports and activities at the Mandan PlayLab with students from Pioneer Elementary’s Peer-to-Peer Program.
A special thank you to Larissa Schwab, Janet Bassingthwaite at the PlayLab, the Pioneer Elementary special education staff, and—most importantly—the Pioneer Elementary students for making this a memorable and impactful learning experience!
