It’s 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮! Today we’d like to introduce you to 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿. Annika joined the North Dakota Water team in November 2023. She is the executive director of the North Dakota Water Coalition and handles communications and government affairs for the Upper Missouri Water Association. But you might know her as the chase vehicle driver for the North Dakota Water Education Foundation tours offering you water, pop, and snacks on all the tour stops! Behind the scenes, Annika helps proofread articles for the 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘋𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘵𝘢 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 magazine, sometimes writes articles for the magazine, and helps Dani and Julie with any and all tasks related to the summer water meeting, annual conference in December, water tours, and Water Day at the State Fair.

Our mission is to increase understanding and knowledge about water resource issues in North Dakota to result in wise, informed decisions for the present and the future. Good luck to the golfers at the 21st Annual 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗢’ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝗲-𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 in Carrington! The ND Water Education Foundation is grateful for this longstanding tradition of giving back to the Dushinske & Jamison Water Resources Scholarship. A special thank you to Stacey Gussiaas with the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District for planning and executing this event!

It’s 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮! The North Dakota Water Education Foundation held a water tour in Dickinson on July 30. Participants learned that Southwest Water Authority pumped 2.3 BILLION gallons of water from Lake Sakakawea in 2025. That’s a tremendous commitment to quality water in southwest North Dakota! Thanks to Southwest Water Authority for a great tour of its water treatment plant and being a 2026 water tour sponsor!

The ND Water Education Foundation had a great tour in the Belcourt area today! The “A Tribal View of Water” tour had stops at the Belcourt Water Treatment Plant and Thorne with great instruction by Kenny Azure, Turtle Mountain Public Utilities manager, and Dan Heitzman, Vice President of Houston Engineering. All Seasons Water Users District manager Dan Schaefer and State Water Commissioner April Walker also gave helpful insights.

Thanks to Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians Tribal Chairman Jamie Azure for warmly welcoming our group and giving an overview of the work the Tribe is doing to enhance the community and region. Following lunch at the Sky Dancer Casino, everyone enjoyed a tour of the waterpark. The tour headed north to the International Peace Garden for the afternoon, taking in the beautiful gardens, 9-11 Memorial, Peace Chapel, and world class conservatory.

It was a beautiful day to be in the Turtle Mountains!
