We are a project-based microschool serving preschool-8th grade students in Bismarck/Mandan, ND.

The Innovation School was started with a question... how can we make school better? Our answer... to create a culture and environment in which kids feel safe and comfortable in asking questions, exploring ideas, and having fun. Our staff is committed to learning about your child and creating a community in which he or she can thrive. We believe in exploring and discovering through projects and making.

One of our favorite annual experiences started today! ❤️

We made our first visit of the school year to Good Samaritan Society - Marillac Manor, where students spent time playing bingo with the residents! We love the connections, smiles, and friendships that grow through these visits.

We’re looking forward to many more visits throughout the year! ❤️

Today for STEM, students explored Cubetto coding robots, using coding tiles to program their robots to follow story routes or create their own paths!

They also learned how to use function codes, allowing one tile to represent up to four actions.

A fun way to build problem-solving, sequencing, and coding skills through hands-on learning! 💡

We had a great afternoon at the pumpkin patch! From exploring and playing to enjoying the beautiful fall weather, it was an afternoon full of smiles, laughter, and memories with friends!

Today was the first day of our fall archery session! 🏹

We have brand-new archers picking up a bow for the first time alongside students who have participated every year since 4th grade, when our archery program begins. It’s always fun to see experienced archers jump right back in while our newest archers learn the basics, practice safety, and build their confidence.

Thanks as always to North Dakota Game and Fish Department and National Archery in the Schools Program for making this program possible!

Our literacy class enjoyed their first monthly visit to the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library! 📚 Students enjoyed treats at The Gifted Bean, practiced ordering independently, explored new books, played games, and read together. 💜

We were so happy to welcome University of Mary students to The Innovation School for their annual Day of Service! 💙

UMary students spent the day jumping right in and supporting our students during gym, music, and art. We’re so grateful for their time, energy, and willingness to serve alongside us today!

Our STEM Tuesday took on robotics with Ozobots! 🤖

Students explored coding, problem-solving, and engineering as they programmed their Ozobots to follow paths and complete challenges. A fun way to bring robotics and computational thinking to life through hands-on learning!

Today, we took our learning outside the classroom with a trip to the Dakota Zoo! As part of our inquiry block, How Do Living Things Survive and Thrive?, students explored animals, their habitats, and the unique adaptations that help them survive.

There’s no better way to bring learning to life than experiencing it firsthand! 🌿🐾

Our First Inquiry Block Is Underway!

Our first block, How Do Living Things Survive and Thrive?, explores one big question through learning experiences adapted to each group.

🔬 Older Learners: Investigating cells with microscopes and exploring body systems through VR.

🌎 Middle Group: Experimenting with animal adaptations and creating their own “ultimate animals” to survive in specific habitats.

🌱 Youngest Learners: Exploring living and nonliving things through movement, discussions, and outdoor microscope investigations.

One big question, many ways to learn! 💚

Today was our first Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library Bookmobile visit of the school year! Students each chose books for silent reading time. They’ll keep them for the month and can share and trade with friends along the way! 📚
