University of Mary Department of Exercise Physiology

The Department of Exercise Physiology at the University of Mary offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology, and a minor in Wellness. The Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science offers a 2.6, 3 and 4 year curriculum plan. A Wellness minor helps diversify students and develops skills in addressing population intervention plans.

The Master of Science Clinical Exercise Physiology Program is a 2-year program of study. It is designed to advance students' knowledge regarding the function of the human body in the presence or absence of disease, in response to exercise or lack there of. Students are prepared to work in settings of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, supervised exercise where participants have clinical conditions for which exercise is indicated (i.e. cardiac, pulmonary, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, obesity, osteoporosis, metabolic disorders, multiple sclerosis, etc.) community fitness, corporate wellness, occupational health, athletic enhancement facilities including strength and conditioning, and higher education. Both BS and MS programs have very strong "hands on" experiences, allowing student to gain advanced assessment, service, leadership, and clinical skills. In addition to hands on experience in classroom and labs, we have a pro-bono Exercise Clinic on campus and students of both programs complete internship experiences. The University of Mary is Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine. The Benedictine values of community, hospitality, moderation, prayer, respect for persons, and service are embedded into the program and practice.
