The MA in Music students had a stellar week in Music History during the Summer Institute. Our special topic this summer is sacred music. We are so grateful for fantastic guest lecturers by Dr. Beverly Everett (organ repertoire) and Professor Abigail Karr (Biber’s Rosary Sonatas for violin). We had an EXTRA special treat when we were joined by composer, Philip Stopford, from England during our class! Students worked on creating SAB works for schools and churches of modest size, delivered presentations on guiding Church documents, and worked collaboratively on repertoire, listening, and inspiring reading assignments! WOW! What a week! We have the best students!

Tuesday evening a few students connected to the Benedictine values of Prayer and Community with a prayerful and contemplative journey through the Monastery Labyrinth on campus. This beautiful labyrinth was created by the Sisters of the Annunciation Monastery.

Congratulations to students and staff from the Orff Level 1 and Kodály Level 3 courses. Both groups presented a beautiful concert today. These incredible educators have been working for the past two weeks towards certification in either Orff or Kodály. We want to give a special shout-out to the Kodály Level 3 students who have spent 229.5 hours over the course of the past 3 summers completing their certification. We were honored to have all 20 participants at UMary.
