Meet Melissa! She is a senior theology major at the University of Mary. During her time at UMary, she has spent her time volunteering in a variety of different ways including teaching as a catechist at Ascension Catholic Church. A friend told her about the opportunity and although it was something outside of her comfort zone, she felt God was calling her to serve in this way. Melissa says that during her time serving as a catechist she grew a lot in virtue and began asking herself questions such as, “How can I be doing better, how can I be more loving, etc.” Her time serving at Ascension has taught her to keep her heart open to possibilities, even if they are outside of her comfort zone. Melissa has also been a generous, regular blood donor!

This week, meet St. Philip Neri! Dedicated to re-evangelize the city of Rome, Philip’s charismatic personality drew others into a joyful encounter with the Divine. As a layman, Philip founded the Confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity, which met for spiritual formation and service to the poor. After a long journey to ordination to the priesthood, Philip Neri continued to evangelize and befriend the people of Rome--rich, clergy, and poor alike--until his death.
