Brain scans show the improvement teachers see in their students.

Researchers put 256 sensors into a hairnet and had 36 students write words by hand, then type the same words on a screen.

Writing by hand lit up connections across the whole brain, in the frequency bands tied to memory. The screen produced almost nothing in the same regions.

Their conclusion was blunt: children must be exposed to handwriting in school from an early age, to build the connections their brains need for learning.

Not instead of screens. Beside them. The same researchers say schools must keep up with the technology too.
