💧 PDMSTA Heat & Hydration Reminder 💧

Dear PDMSTA Families,

With high heat-index conditions expected throughout the remainder of the week, please ensure that your child brings a clear, refillable water bottle to school each day. Water bottles should be filled before arrival and labeled with the student’s name.

Because students transition between locations across our campus, PDMSTA is taking precautionary measures to ensure they have ample opportunities to stay hydrated. Our school nurse has also sent home important tips and guidance to help families keep students safe during periods of extreme heat. Please review this information with your child.

We have also updated our dismissal procedures to reduce the amount of time students spend standing outdoors during the afternoon, when temperatures and the heat index are typically at their highest.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep every student safe, comfortable, and properly hydrated!

🎉 Congratulations to Ms. Lucinda Wilson – PDMSTA’s 2026 Educator of the Year! 🎉

Tonight was a truly special evening as we celebrated our very own Ms. Lucinda Wilson, who was honored with the Educator of the Year Award at the Lee County Chamber Annual Gala!

As P*e Dee Math, Science and Technology Academy prepares to begin our 14th year, it is only fitting that one of our very first team members receives such a well-deserved honor. Ms. Wilson has been a part of the PDMSTA family since 2013, helping to build the foundation of who we are today.

Her journey is one of perseverance, commitment, and purpose. Ms. Wilson began her career at PDMSTA as a paraprofessional while pursuing her college education. Through hard work and determination, she earned her degree and was promoted to become one of our outstanding First Grade teachers. Since then, she has impacted countless young lives through her unwavering love for children, dedication to excellence, and belief that every child can succeed.

Every day, Ms. Wilson does more than teach reading, writing, and math—she helps shape character, instills confidence, and protects the dreams of the future leaders of our community, state, and nation. Her classroom reflects the heart of what education is all about: building relationships, inspiring curiosity, and helping children believe in themselves.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Lee County Chamber for hosting such an outstanding gala and for recognizing the incredible educators, businesses, and community leaders who make Lee County a better place. Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees—it was an honor to celebrate alongside each of you.

Finally, thank you to the PDMSTA staff, board members, families, and supporters who joined us tonight to celebrate this memorable occasion. Our 3rd graders had a fantastic time participating in a “Find Someone Who” activity! 🎉 Students met new classmates, asked thoughtful questions, discovered common interests, and began building new friendships. 👫📚

At PDMSTA, we believe that strong relationships create strong learners. Activities like these help foster a welcoming classroom community where every student feels connected, valued, and ready for a successful year of learning.

For the past several years, Pastor Sam has faithfully come to our campus to pray over our students, staff, and school community. This year, he was joined by his wonderful family and the Slice Drive Baptist Church team, making this time of prayer and encouragement even more meaningful.

As the pastor of Alice Drive Baptist Church – Bishopville Campus, Pastor Sam also faithfully leads our Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), investing in the spiritual growth and development of our students throughout the year.

We are truly grateful for Pastor Sam, his family, and the entire Alice Baptist Church team for their continued partnership with P*e Dee Math, Science & Technology Academy. Your prayers, service, and commitment remind us of the power of a community coming together to support the next generation.

Today was more than the first day of school—it was the beginning of a new chapter at P*e Dee Math, Science, and Technology Academy!

Our hearts are full after welcoming back so many of our returning students while also meeting the many new faces joining the PDMSTA family this year. Hearing students say, “I had an awesome day!” was the perfect reminder of why we do what we do.

As students walked through our Celebration Tunnel this morning, they were greeted with smiles, cheers, high-fives, and a community that believes in them from the moment they arrive. We are excited about the year ahead and all that our students will accomplish together.

A special thank you to John S. Payne and Dawn Knapper from the South Carolina Public Charter School District for joining us and helping welcome our students with such enthusiasm. Your support made our first day even more special, and we are grateful for your partnership.

The 2026–2027 school year is off to an incredible start, and we truly believe this is going to be an amazing year of learning, growth, innovation, and collaboration.

Strong schools are built by strong teams.

Today, our Operations Team took the lead in equipping our staff with the tools, systems, and knowledge needed for a successful school year.

🍎 Ms. Steadman, our Nutrition Services Manager, shared updates on school meal operations and how we will continue providing quality service to our students.

💻 Our IT Department, led by Mr. Dawson, IT Coordinator, along with Mr. Bobby, our School IT Intern, introduced key technology tools and resources that will help streamline instruction, communication, and daily operations.

🛡️ Mrs. Benjamin reviewed important school safety protocols, reinforcing our commitment to providing a safe, secure, and prepared learning environment for every student and staff member.

⏰ Mr. Brandon Byrd, our Operations & HR Director, guided staff through ADP training, ensuring everyone was able to log in successfully and understand our timekeeping and clock-in procedures.

Finally, I had the opportunity to connect each of these sessions back to our school priorities—showing that every system, every department, and every person plays a vital role in fulfilling our mission.

At PDMSTA, operational excellence isn’t just about processes—it’s about creating an environment where teachers can teach, students can thrive, and every department works together toward one shared vision.
