Lee Vining is turning 100 and we are excited to be part of the celebration this Saturday! Stop by our booth at the Community Fair at Hess Park to say hello, learn more about our work in the area, and get a first look at the schedule of presenters for this year's Eastern Sierra History Conference.

Join us for a free Nature Walk at Horseshoe Lake tomorrow, August 22nd from 10:00am to 11:30am.

Meet at the trailhead info kiosk near the Horseshoe Lake parking lot. Open to all ages. Trail is approximately 1.5 miles and mostly flat.

Join us this Saturday, August 22nd, at the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center for a book signing event with Dr. Robert Marks, author of Deep Time in the Mono Lake Basin.

Dr. Marks will be at the Mammoth Visitor Center from 12pm - 4pm signing books and chatting about his new book looking at 10,000 years of history in the Mono Lake Basin.

Stop by and say hello and pick up a copy of this fascinating and sweeping history of people, ecology and water.

We are now hiring for a Bishop Climbing Ranger for the 26-27 climbing season! This position is seasonal (Oct - May) and full-time based in the Bishop, CA area.

The Climbing Ranger will collaborate with Inyo National Forest, LA Department of Water and Power, BLM, and Inyo County on project priorities through education, communication, and stewardship efforts. Pay range is $22 - 25 an hour based on experience.

Interested in learning more about the plants and animals that call the Mammoth Lakes Basin home? Join us every Saturday this August for free nature walks around Horseshoe Lake as we explore the natural history, ecology and geology of the area.

📆 Saturdays in August from 10:00am - 12:00pm
📍Meet at the trailhead kiosk at Horseshoe Lake parking lot

Nature walks are free and open to all ages. The trail is a flat loop about 1.75 miles long through the forest.

HEADS UP — TUTTLE CREEK CAMPGROUND CLOSURE

Tuttle Creek Campground will be temporarily closed for road maintenance from August 9 (noon) through August 15 (noon).

The good news? The Alabama Hills are still wide open and as stunning as ever. Here are a few great alternatives nearby.

🏕 Alabama Hills Designated Campsites (BLM)
First come, first serve semi-primitive camping within the National Scenic Area — free permit is required. No reservations needed. Fire restrictions are in effect.

🏕 Portuguese Joe Campground (Inyo County)
A shady creekside gem just outside Lone Pine — 20 sites, tables, fire rings, potable water, from $14/night. Reservations at reserveamerica.com.

🏕 Lone Pine Campground (Inyo National Forest)
Six miles up Whitney Portal Road at 5,800 ft — 42 sites, bear boxes, firewood for sale, $34/night. Reserve at recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.

Our last Birds & Bristlecones hike for the season is tomorrow, July 10! Come up to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest to escape the heat and learn more about the birds that call this unique forest home. 🐦

📍Meet on the deck at Schulman Visitor Center

Walk is free and open to all, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The walk takes place at 10,000' in elevation, so please bring water, sun protection and hiking/walking shoes.

Ready for a Friday getaway? Try a morning Birds & Bristlecones walk hosted by Sierra Forever (Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association).

Join Sierra Forever naturalists for a free one-hour guided walk through the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Learn about the fascinating bird species of the high Sierra while exploring the unique ecology of the world's oldest living trees.

For a peek at the birds that you might see, check out the eBird hotspot "White Mtns.--Schulman Grove and nearby trails" (https://ebird.org/hotspot/L505441). Fifty bird species have been reported so far this June. Recent sightings include some colorful characters: Violet-green Swallows, Mountain Bluebirds, Williamson's Sapsuckers, and Green-tailed Towhees.

Fridays at 9-10 AM, June 5 – July 10

Walks take place at approximately 10,000 feet elevation and include some elevation gain. Please bring:
