On Thursday, December 18, there will be a gathering to honor and celebrate the life of our beloved teacher, PJ Godwin.
All who wish to attend are invited to gather in the ASFA Visual Arts Gallery between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. This time will be an opportunity to come together in community to celebrate PJ’s life and to share reflections on the profound ways PJ has impacted and enriched our lives.
Guests may arrive at any point during the 3:00–5:00 PM window; however, we anticipate that shared remembrances and reflections will begin shortly after 3:00 PM.
We hope you will join us as we honor PJ together.

ASFA Creative Writing students are exploring what it means to be artists through a unique collaboration with the Dance Department and Sloss Metal Arts.
Guided by ASFA Creative Writing instructor Mazerick Betko, these students have been responding to their experiences with the ASFA Dance Department, creating projects ranging from poetry and essays to textiles, jewelry, and artist statements—while also engaging in Birmingham’s historic cast iron process. Students have interviewed ASFA dancers, faculty, and outside community members connected to the themes of the ASFA: Gathering showcase.
This ongoing work highlights the power of collaboration, creativity, and community. Here’s a glimpse of their projects in progress!

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Melanie Lee, who served as ASFA’s registrar for many years. Melanie was a kind and steady presence in our school community, dedicated to supporting students, families, and faculty with warmth and care. Her work touched countless lives, and her legacy at ASFA will be remembered with deep gratitude.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
