Benefits

Students in the University Honors Program receive a more intensive and innovative education than is available in the regular curriculum.

The University Honors Program (UHP) is a specialized program within the UAB Honors College which provides a uniquely engaging arts and sciences curriculum taught by faculty from a wide variety of academic fields. Special team-taught interdisciplinary courses and small seminars replace the core curriculum with something more innovative and varied for excellent students who value the full diversity

It’s
This week, we’re hearing from Zoya Aleezada, a freshman majoring in Biology and Bioinformatics, and minoring in Music!

Hi, My name is Zoya Aleezada, and joining UHP has been the best decision I have ever made for my college experience!! UHP is actually what brought me here to UAB, my sister and friends always told amazing stories of the in-depth lectures, close-knit community, and amazing professors. I am glad to say that my expectations have been wildly surpassed, with my fall semester in Interdisc being such a formative experience. I was really able to make close relationships with my lecturers and classmates—so much so that I joined the beloved Karmie on a study abroad trip this spring break to London!!! I feel like UHP has really pushed me further out of my comfort zone in the best ways possible. In fact, it is because of Ashley, that I applied and became an Orientation Leader for this upcoming summer! I have so much love for this small, but mighty, program. It is full of intelligent lifelong scholars from so many fields and interests.

Today is This week, we’re hearing from Afsheen Fatima, a sophomore majoring in Cancer Biology!

I chose UHP because I wanted to take classes and explore topics in college that I would not have encountered anywhere else. I love how Interdisciplinary seminars and other UHP courses dive into unique subjects that I never would have learned about if I had not been part of the program. I knew UHP was the right choice for me as soon as I toured Spencer’s and met some amazing UHP alumni during orientation my freshman year. UHP was the first place at UAB where I truly felt at home. Some of my closest friendships here have come through UHP, and it is a program I know will stay with me for the rest of my life.

It’s
This week we’re hearing from Randi Cron, a sophomore majoring in Nursing!

Hi my name is Randi, and I love UHP because of the community that it has created for me here at UHP! UHP is so unique in the way that it allows individuals to think about all aspects of life and connect different subjects together. I feel as though this liberal arts style education has provided me with a way to broaden my perspectives on the world and understand how different fields of study connect together. But most of all, I appreciate the friends that I have made along the way that have encouraged me to be the best version of myself. Honestly, I don’t know who I would be today without UHP, and I think it is an opportunity that provides so much!

IT’S !!! 🔥 This week we’re hearing from Verena Bhagat, a freshman majoring in Immunology!

“I chose to join UHP because it gave me the chance to explore new subjects and ideas outside of my major. UHP’s interdisciplinary approach to learning is a unique and engaging way to discover the world! Some of my favorite memories from my UHP class include touring the medical exhibits at Lister Hill Library, watching movies and discussing them, and being introduced to the AEIVA art gallery and printmaking. UHP has pushed me to redefine myself as a scholar, and it has also given me a community of like-minded scholars to enjoy this experience with! On top of all that, getting to attend UHP events with my friends has become one of the highlights of my freshman year, enriching my life both academically and socially. The UHP community is incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I can’t wait to see where it will take me over the next few years!” Go Blazers!
