Best day in celebrating the best of the best! 🍎 I enjoyed spending time with dynamic educators who are Driving Education forward and using their voices to impact education in profound ways. A special thank you to Dr. Tammarra Taylor-Tippett for inviting me to speak and putting on the most elevated and intentional Teacher of the Year banquets . 🤍

Massive congratulations to my good friend Leon Smith—the 2026 National Teacher of the Year! Leon teaches AP African American Studies and AP US History at Haverford High School in Pennsylvania, where he also coaches freshmen basketball. He has a heart for making school a place for ALL learners, especially in using his voice to ensure that our educational system is equitable and just for all students.
Leon will do amazing things in this role, representing the collective voice of the 3.8 million educators throughout the nation. Leon, our NTOY cohort is proud of you and stands with you as you spend this year championing our beloved profession.

Spent the day doing walkthroughs with many educators including at —such a rewarding experience full of growth and learning!

I only wish I could’ve stayed longer in Mrs. Miles’ class to hear her students finish debating an interesting forensics case. In Mr. Burt’s class I learned about proper semicolon use; I’m excited to start incorporating it more.

Huge shoutout to Principal Tikki Hines and the administration team, the teachers and student ambassadors at George Washington Carver High School for making today a day of growth and learning for everyone involved.

Loved spending time today in ! 🍎🚗

Want to visit the hallways of a school district that’s making waves?

In this episode of Driving Education, Katie travels to Gulf Shores to see how this district embodies the very best of what’s  possible in public education. You will get to hear from teachers who share:

🍎What great teaching really looks like day-to-day
🚗How relationships drive everything
❤️The joy, the challenge, and the responsibility of the work

It’s about purpose.
It’s about people.
It’s about the moments that remind us why we stay in the car and keep driving.
