Secondary Teacher of the Year Eshwaa Godfrey recognized by his alma mater, ASU🐝!

From the classroom to the sidelines, Eshwaa Godfrey is shaping the future through leadership, mentorship and service.

The Alabama State University alumnus and Selma High School teacher has been named the 2026–2027 Alternate Alabama Teacher of the Year, emerging from more than 155 applicants statewide. Godfrey continues to make room for possibility by helping students recognize their potential and pursue excellence.

Thank you to Athens State University Regional Inservice Center for the amazing hospitality and welcome by Athens State University leadership and teachers from across the region today. I look forward to being back ‘home’ in North Alabama to speak with Limestone County Schools teachers September 16 on coteaching and collaboration strategies to build a culture of belonging for EVERY learner, and continuing to share my passion for Project Outreach Gulf Coast across our great state!

At MEGA this year, we had the opportunity to celebrate with The University of South Alabama for the 60th anniversary of the College of Education and Professional Studies. It was an honor to kick off the 26-27 school year today speaking to 4800 employees at Baldwin County Public Schools with Troy University alum Gerry Brooks who spoke in the district that educated me, Limestone County Schools, earlier this week. I hope this is truly the best year yet across our state!
