-Research
The primary goal is to promote research among undergraduates. This will be accomplished by matching the students to a mentor based on the students area of interest. also offers an opportunity for undergraduates to promote and present their research to peers and faculty. Additionally, undergraduates will also have the opportunity to have their research published in an accredited and respe
ctable scientific journal.
-Shadowing
Similarly B.U.R.N. will promote shadowing among undergraduates. This will be accomplished by matching the students to a professional based on the students area of interest. Due to UAB’s prime location in the middle of several major hospitals and clinics, B.U.R.N. is able to offer students a unique opportunity to shadow professionals in a large variety of fields.
-Miscellaneous
B.U.R.N. may also hold other events that will benefit students in addition to research and shadowing. Such events may include resume workshops, mock interviews, or other such events that members feel would be beneficial. Members are welcome to offer up ideas of events they would like to see implemented.
-Membership
All members must be current UAB students and will be classified as being either active or inactive members. Active
Requirements: $10 membership fee, must attend a minimum of half of the total events hosted by the organization
Benefits: T-shirt, opportunity to apply as an officer, letter of commendation/proof of membership upon request
Inactive
Requirements: meets the general requirements but not the requirements to be considered an active member
Benefits: proof of membership upon request
-Meeting & Events
Executive meetings: meetings in which the Executive Board will convene to plan and organize events, discuss relevant business, and address other pressing matters. Held every other week
General meetings: meetings for ALL members during which information will be put out to members, satisfaction/dissatisfaction with the organization can be addressed, ideas can be brought to the attention of the Board, and when needed matters can be voted on. Held once a month, dates and times will be disclosed in the newsletter, through email, and on Facebook
Events, workshops, seminars, etc.: programs that will further benefit B.U.R.N. TBA, dates and times will be disclosed in the newsletter, through email, and on Facebook.
