A creative writing workshop for aspiring young writers and/or creatives. There are scholarships available for anyone who finds the Workshop cost prohibitive.

Please invite aspiring young writers and / or those who are interested in creative writing to apply. For three weeks each June, they will explore all aspects of the writing process from drafting to revising to publishing. For more information, please visit:

Birmingham poets are invited to submit work for Lyrics for Life, a new anthology edited by the City of Birmingham’s inaugural Poet Laureate, Salaam Green, in partnership with the Academy of American Poets, with a foreword by Randall Horton.

This project celebrates the voices, stories, and lived experiences of Birmingham youth and adults, featuring poetry rooted in community, healing, and truth. Submissions are open to poets of all ages and experience levels who live, work, study, or create in the City of Birmingham.

Categories include youth and adult poets, as well as emerging and previously published writers. Submissions are due by January 31, 2026 at 11:59 pm Central Time.
