Second generation business offering essential lifesaving skills, this Water Safety Program was established to prevent drowning and build confidence in the water. Instructor: Lynn Andrews (the daughter) continues the family tradition of teaching children and adults how to swim and the importance of water safety. She teaches group lessons where students gain courage and build camaraderie with fel

low students. Techniques are effective to have children jumping in and swimming out in the deep end of pool with self-sufficiency. Swimming Session Details:

– Two Weeks
– Monday through Friday
– Ten - 1 hour lessons
– Morning, Afternoon or After Work to Accommodate Schedules
– Basic Fundamentals and Swimming Technique (with no dependency on
flotation devices)
– Water Safety and Overall Pool Safety
– Make-up Lessons Scheduled for Inclement Weather Delays or Cancellations
– $325 for two week session

Classes are held all over Birmingham and the surrounding area in private pools. Students learn better in a group setting where they gain courage and build camaraderie with fellow students. Techniques will have children jumping in and swimming out in the deep end of the pool with self-sufficiency. Ages 1 - 3 focus more on safety and ability to get themselves out rather than developing proper form. Youngest students are 18 - 20 months if they are physically and developmentally ready. Each child progresses and will be taught to his/her maximum potential. Students that are more athletic with strong coordination obviously might excel quicker and beyond a child that struggles with coordination. Additionally students that practice regularly continue to build and develop better form and technique in the water. As with any sport practice improves ability in the water — and the safety of your child.

Birth of the Alabama-based Swim N**i

Often I am asked why I began teaching... or where I learned my successful technique. Well, quite simply, it is a family tradition. I am Lynn Andrews, Jr. — the second generation Swim N**i – as we are affectionately known, due to our successful results and quest to not give up on a student. (No disrespect is meant and we apologize to anyone who may find it offensive, the nickname is circa 1995 and began during Seinfeld’s Soup N**i trend. The nickname stuck and has continued to bring parents seeking strict instruction. My Mother, Lynn Andrews Sr., is the original swimming instructor who has taught for over 55 years in Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa and other surrounding areas of Alabama. She started teaching earlier in her life in Montgomery before marriage and the birth of her two daughters. In the early 1970’s after the tragic death of a neighborhood toddler drowning, my Mother had a calling to teach again. It started by her teaching neighborhood children to be safe – then they would bring their friends and their friends would bring their friends and thus multiplied exponentially. I grew up with the business as my Mother taught at our house every spring and summer. As news traveled about her teaching capabilities more people called and her reputation took flight for being the best (and perhaps only) private swimming instructor in the area – especially as far as working with toddlers as young as 15 to 18 months of age. By 1980, the business transitioned to teaching in individuals’ private pools all over the Birmingham area. We would be invited to teach children and their friends in their own pool so they would become more aware of pool safety and familiarized with the surroundings where they would be swimming. From the age of 8, I traveled with her and assisted with teaching classes, so I literally grew up with the business, teaching beside her from an early age. Since then the business has continually grown – traveling to different areas of the state to accommodate teaching more families the importance of water safety and equipping their children with the necessary life skills to insure their children are safe around pools, lakes and recreational water. Learning how to swim saves lives and prevents unnecessary accidents and deaths. Therefore, I proudly continue the family tradition of teaching little ones to swim with confidence and give parents the reassurance that their children are safer around water.

— In Honor of The Original Miss Lynn's Birthday —

Our mother's dedication and commitment to ensuring children's safety around water spoke louder than words — it truly was her greatest accomplishment.

Miss Lynn, Sr. was a pioneer; she was one of the first to specialize in providing a water safety program, in addition to, raising awareness and teaching drowning prevention techniques within Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Sylacauga, and surrounding areas.

The imprint she made in the community still resounds today with the numerous second and third generation students that have completed her program.

The treasured friendships and families that she came to know through out her fifty plus years of teaching were a blessing and added reward. We are grateful for the endless support and love shown to our mother. And the cherished memories we still get to hear on how she impacted so many lives.
