What happens when students spend their summer growing deeper in their faith, building community, and being equipped to live on mission? They return to campus ready to make disciples. 🌊🙌

This is the heart of Campus Outreach: students reaching students with the gospel and being equipped to live on mission wherever God has placed them. As the semester begins, we can’t wait to see the gospel go out across college campuses and for more students to know and follow Jesus! 🎓☀️

Over the next few weeks, more than 200,000 students will return to 12 college campuses across our region.

Nearly 30,000 of them are freshmen, walking onto campus for the very first time.

They’re searching for friends.
They’re searching for belonging.
They’re thinking about their future.
They’re figuring out who they are and what they believe.

And we believe college can be so much more than a season of preparation for a career.

It can be the season when their eternity changes!

29% of U.S. adults are ‘religiously unaffiliated’ — the largest religious category in America after Christianity.

It’s easy to read that and assume they’ve walked away from God.

They haven’t.

70% of religious ‘Nones’ still believe in God or a higher power. 63% believe in spiritual forces beyond the natural world. Only 19% are strict nonbelievers.

Among Gen Z, 79% identify as at least slightly spiritual. 77% call themselves spiritual; 68% religious.

The Nones aren’t a wall. They’re a wide-open conversation.

And on the college campus — where 36% of undergraduates claim ‘no religion’ — our staff and students are having that conversation every week!

This week, all of our Campus Outreach staff from across the region are gathered in Birmingham for Vision Days — a time to pause, reflect, worship, and be reminded of the mission God has called us to.

As we’ve reflected on the ministry of Campus Outreach, we asked some of our long-time staff to share what continues to fuel their passion for this mission after 20+ years of serving students.

Their answers are a beautiful reminder that this work is about more than a program or a season — it’s about seeing lives transformed by the gospel and trusting God to continue reaching the next generation.

We’re grateful for the faithfulness of God and the people He has called to this mission!

🌎 PROJECT 67 🌎 

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us, so that your way may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.”  - Psalm 67:1–2

Project 67 is a special part of Beach Project dedicated to helping students see God’s heart for the nations and consider their place in His mission. During this time, students hear powerful messages from scripture about God’s desire to make His name known among every people, tribe, and nation. They also have the opportunity to connect with organizations serving around the world and learn about opportunities to serve internationally after graduation.

Our prayer is that Project 67 would open students’ eyes to the global mission of God and inspire a lifetime of saying yes to wherever He may call!

May His ways be known on earth. May His salvation reach the nations.

The U.S. Surgeon General has declared loneliness a public-health epidemic, and Gen Z is, in his words, ‘particularly hard hit.’ Loneliness now carries roughly the same mortality risk as smoking 15 ci******es a day.

On college campuses, 41% of students screen positive for depression. Su***de is the #2 cause of death among college-age young adults.

Yet 57% of Gen Z say their spiritual practices matter for their mental health. 74% who pray daily say they’re ‘flourishing a lot.’

Loneliness is the open door. Christian community is the answer.

Seven students. Seven first-time professions of faith!

Earlier this summer, 110 students from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Alabama spent two weeks at Coastal Project.

Five students trusted Jesus for the very first time. Many more took meaningful steps of surrender, choosing to follow Him more deeply.

As summer projects begin to wrap up, we’re praising God for lives changed, students equipped, and seeds planted that will continue to bear fruit long after summer ends!
