📢Register today for the 7th Annual Strides for SOS 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk!

🌳Join your friends and neighbors on September 27th at Beverly Park. It's our biggest fundraiser of the year!

💵 Each year, SOS provides thousands of dollars in financial support to dozens of families in all 13 BPS schools, Lincoln Street Alternative School, and the Adult Transition Program. For the 2025/2026 school year, SOS provided:

⭐️ Nearly $30,000 in financial assistance for medical and utility bills, groceries, gas, childcare, and clothing to meet 61 requests for support from BPS families
⭐️ $5000 worth of non-perishable food bags and $35,500 in gift cards and cash to 88 families from 12 BPS schools to assist with holiday shopping
⭐️ 100 non-perishable food bags (totaling $5000) for families over the February and March school breaks
⭐️ $15,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors through the Barbara & Sheldon Weisberg SOS Laptop Scholarship Fund

🎤 Student Voices Wanted!

Birmingham Public Schools is looking for student speakers to present at our 2026 Red Apple Breakfast on Wednesday, August 26!

This year’s theme, “Every Voice Valued, Every Person Belongs,” celebrates inclusion, belonging, and the unique perspectives that make our BPS community stronger.

Students are invited to submit a:
📝 Speech
📖 Essay
🎭 Spoken word performance
✍️ Poem
🎤 Or another form of spoken expression

Selected students will have the opportunity to inspire BPS teachers and staff as we kick off the 2026–2027 school year at one of the district’s signature events.

Important Dates
📅 Submission Deadline: Friday, August 7, 2026 (11:59 p.m.)
🎙️ Auditions: Friday, August 14, 2026 (Zoom option available for students who are out of town)
