Founded in 2011 by Dr. Martin Nalls, College Admissions Made Possible (CAMP) is a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening college and career readiness for students at underserved schools. For 15+ years, CAMP has partnered with school districts and GEAR UP initiatives to deliver customized, high-impact support, including ACT prep and mock testing with data analytics, the Alabama Virtual Institute (AVI

) STEM curriculum, the BSI Summer Program for leadership and university pathways, College Compass, and our Merit Scholars program. Headquartered in Birmingham, AL, with a flagship partnership with Birmingham City Schools, CAMP now works with 200+ schools across the United States and has impacted more than 30,000 students. What works in one district may not be what another district needs.

That’s why we don’t believe partnership should start with a prebuilt solution.

At CAMP, we start by listening.

We want to understand your students, your goals, your data, and the work already happening in your schools before we recommend what comes next.

For one partner, that may mean ACT preparedness. For another, it may be college access, professional learning, data support, or a combination built around a very different need.

Because adding another program isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes the better answer is strengthening what’s already working, filling the gaps that matter most, and building support around the students, educators, and leaders already doing the work.

Rigor and care are not competing priorities.

At Alabama Virtual Institute, they are built into the same learning experience.

AVI Director TraVonna Heard puts it simply: “Before a student can learn, you have to check in with their heart.”

That belief shapes the entire program. Virtual teachers lead STEM and social-emotional learning across multiple sites. In-person educators help students turn those lessons into hands-on products. The Engineering Design Process teaches students to test ideas, learn from mistakes, and try again.

The result is an Afterschool environment where students feel known, supported, and ready to take on challenging work.

AVI is one example of how CAMP turns strong ideas into structured learning experiences. We develop programs, prepare educators, and work alongside partners to create the conditions students need to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

The hardest part of college and career readiness isn't offering more.

It's making sure the support actually reaches students and leads somewhere through collaboration and customization.

As the school year gets moving, five questions can tell a team a lot:

1. Are we reaching the students who need support most?
2. Do students know what comes next?
3. Do the adults supporting them have what they need?
4. Can we see participation and progress, not just enrollment?
5. Do we have the capacity to do this well at scale?

None of these has a quick fix. But they can show you where to look first.

When does workforce development actually begin?

Not when a student fills out their first job application.

Margaret Morton of SAFE believes it begins much earlier, when young people are learning how to solve problems, work with others, recover from mistakes, discover what they’re good at, and imagine what might be possible for their future.

That’s the kind of learning happening every day in Afterschool programs.

In our newest CAMP blog, Margaret shares how SAFE’s work with students and families, along with the development of EARTH in East Alabama, connects to a much bigger vision for Alabama’s workforce.

Today is National Nonprofit Day, and for us, it comes back to one thing: people.

CAMP may have different programs serving students in different ways, but the heart of the work is remarkably consistent. It’s people building relationships, creating opportunities, encouraging students, and helping them see what could be possible next.

Huntsville friends, CAMP is hiring for two student-facing roles!

We’re looking for people who enjoy working with students and know how much the right support can matter.

Our ACT Instructors will work with high school students to strengthen ACT skills, strategies, and confidence.

Our In-School Math Tutors will work with small groups of Huntsville City Schools middle school students, providing consistent instruction and helping students make real academic progress.

Both are paid, school-day opportunities in Huntsville, with compensation beginning at $25/hour and reaching up to $50/hour depending on the role and experience.

At CAMP, this work connects directly to our mission: equipping students with the tools they need to create more possibilities for what comes next.

That matters to us at CAMP.

Our mission is to help students gain access to the college, university, or career of their choice. And part of doing that well is making sure students know their voice matters along the way.
