You know Eric Essix as an Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame inductee, a celebrated UAB faculty artist, and one of Birmingham's finest musicians.
What you may not know is that Eric is also a professional photographer โ and when we approached him about hiring him to capture our Richard Smallwood Tribute Benefit Concert, he wouldn't accept payment.
An Ephesus Academy alumnus. A professional with every reason to charge. Yet he chose to volunteer an entire evening of his craft โ because this school still means that much to him and to us.
These are his photos. Professional quality. Donated with purpose.
Eric, thank you for proving that Ephesus doesn't just produce talent โ it produces character.

What a weekend.
Alumni from the 1960s to the 2000s came home Friday night โ reconnecting over incredible food catered by our own alumna Felecia. Saturday morning, the balcony was FULL as Pastor John Parker, an Ephesus alumnus, delivered a powerful Education Day message.
And Saturday evening? The Richard Smallwood Tribute Concert gave us a taste of heaven. The Ephesus Academy Choir opened with our scholars' spirit on full display. The Angels of Praise Dance Team moved the room with grace. Dr. Wayne Bucknor delivered a masterful offering. The Sixth Avenue Baptist Church Praise Team brought the house together. Riverside SDA Church Praise Team lifted every soul. Valor left us breathless. The Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir carried us higher. And Elder Corey Bean closing with "Total Praise" brought the room to its feet.
This family is alive. Now let's build.
Our Legacy Campaign: $200,000 by May 30th for campus renovation, the AI Academy, and our school
farm. Details on how to give below.
