A Farewell from The Skipper
Today is the day I walk away from something that has been a part of my life for more than 40 years. This was not an easy decision. In many ways, baseball has been woven into the fabric of who I am. All I ever wanted was to make my mother and my brother proud. To step away from something that was built through God's grace, mercy, and countless blessings is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to every player, coach, parent, teacher, administrator, and member of the Parker Community. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and for making this journey so meaningful. This has been a ride I never imagined ending, and the memories, relationships, and experiences we've shared will forever remain embedded in my heart.
I can honestly say that for the past 27 years, I gave this profession everything I had, every single day. Lord, You know how difficult this decision has been, and I thank You for guiding me every step of the way.
To my grandmother, grandfather, uncle, and aunt thank you for believing in me long before many others did. You always told me that one day I would become someone people would remember. I want you to know that I stand here today because of your love, encouragement, and wisdom. Every accomplishment along the way carries your fingerprints.
As I close this chapter and prepare for the next, I want to thank my daughters, Shalyn, Brooke, and Bailee. Thank you for understanding my mission and for sharing your daddy with so many others throughout the years. I love each of you beyond measure. Everything I worked for was done in hopes of leaving a legacy that would make you proud to say, "That's my daddy."
To Jasmine, thank you for being my rock. You worked tirelessly behind the scenes, pushing me to heights even I was sometimes afraid to reach. Thank you for supporting my passion, believing in me, and standing beside me through every challenge and triumph. You always had my back, even when no one knew you were there.
To my family and friends, thank you for every congratulation, compliment, word of encouragement, and even the tough conversations that helped me grow. Your support meant more than you'll ever know.
My coaching career consisted of 942 games 26 years as a head coach and one year as an assistant coach. I would not trade this journey for anything. The lessons learned, the lives touched, the relationships built, and the countless memories made have shaped me into a stronger man, coach, and leader.
As I reflect on this incredible journey, my heart is filled with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who played a role in this story. You have been a blessing to me and my family.
With that being said, I coached my final game on April 24, 2026.
The Skipper is signing out.
With love and gratitude,
Tyrus Lanard Moss
