Exploring art and creative ideas for children. More inspiration can be found at theartgardenblog.com

Iโ€™m Lisa, former elementary and intermediate art teacher turned stay at home mom to my two girls, ages 2 and 5. I strive to spend my time with my children immersed in art, nature, play, books, music, cooking, and anything that sparks imagination, exploration, and creativity. My blog theartgardenblog.com was started to share ideas and inspiration to motivate parents and their children to be creative and to live artful lives.

The ultimate sustainable packaging! We need more of this!

Vendors in Asia have come up with alternative packaging to eliminate the use of plastics by using baskets made from coconut fronds & banana leaf packaging.

The baskets (made entirely out of coconut fronds) are locally called โ€˜Sulingkatโ€™. The fruit & veg wrapped in banana leaves also make the agricultural produce last longer since they keep the moisture in while blocking the heat.

In Southeast Asia, more than 75% of the material value of recyclable plastic is lost.
With only 18 to 28% of recyclable plastic recovered & recycled, most plastic packaging waste pollutes the environment, according to studies by the World Bank Group.

Using coconut & banana leaves are a great alternative to plastic as the leaves are large, thick & supple enough to be folded. This method significantly reduces the amount of plastic required.

My students were wrapping up some belated Valentine art last week but it was also so they work for that too!

We used our book pages from the previous week and combined it with some Romero Britto bleeding tissue paper hearts, inspired by โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™
