After our 1st Annual Juneteenth Gala Fund Rising was at the HE Building. Starr Fisher shared the building with us. She did her crowning. The Gala was packed. Lots of politicians were there to speak that night. It was awesome and awesomel blast. It will be happening again in Augugt or September 2026. We commemorate the born day of Ronald Doc Myers, February 29, founder of Juneteenth by Legislation. I recall the late hours of May 2016 when Doc Myers called me at 2:30 AM to inform me that the 30-day period had elapsed and stated, 'YOU ARE THE ALABAMA STATE DIRECTOR of Juneteenth.' The call ended abruptly as he hung up. This interaction was not unusual, given our frequent late-night conversations about Juneteenth. He once emphasized that as the state director, I should possess extensive knowledge about The National Juneteenth Observance Foundation of Alabama. Tomorrow, we will honor Doc's born day at a local restaurant; details will be shared via Facebook inbox or phone text. I extend my gratitude to Brenda Paige Ward, CEO of RITT dba the Official National Juneteenth State Director of Alabama, appointed by Doc Ronald Myers. With the bill passing on May 8, 2025, and again on June 9, 2025, I am confident that Doc, along with Jimmy Polk, is smiling. I deeply miss them 😢. Return If Possible (RIP).
